This game should be locked to 60 FPS by default, Windowed or not.
However, if you run anything beyond 1920 x 1080, there would be weird FPS issues, like lower FPS with multiple big display... never heard of uncapped FPS in this game...
I dont have anything fancy.... 23inch monitor
win 10
nvidia 2070rtx

i have always play this game in windows mode 1280 x 720

the fps is all over the place...
the main menu is jumping around in the 1000s

when i went into option it jumped upto the 3000s and
even went as high as 4000

I am playing at lower Windowed resolution such as 1280 x 720 too.
It should still be steady 60 FPS, try open NVIDIA Control Panel (Not GeForce) and check "Global Settings":

My Max Frame Rate is "Off". Vertical sync is "Use the 3D application setting".
If you want to be specific for BTD6 use "Program Settings" instead.
It should be either of these.
thanks CatChu

I dont have geforce...

but yep... i added bt6 to nvidia control panel and just set it to 60
locked and loaded and ready to pop pop pop

1080p.... 2070 why

It should lock to the refresh rate of your monitor. Mine is locked to 165 FPS, is there an in-game Vsync option you can turn on?

He is saying you have a decent video card (2070) but only game at 1080p. I personally have a RTX 3090 and game @ 1440p—I value high frames per second over resolution though.

I mean seriously, does having bigger screen means I must play the game on bigger screen? Depending on where I sit, it is useless for me to play 4k while sitting very near, where every game has their own way of rendering stuff, such as crucial UI.

I value game in this way: Gameplay > Performance > Resolution. If Cyberpunk and Outer Worlds offer nothing unique than Fallout New Vegas aside from stunning graphics, I would just play New Vegas instead. I'm not judging those games, I'm giving an example that why people should not push others to try insane resolution with insane graphic card.

Plus, BTD6 is currently not supporting anything beyond 1080p. It is not about the spec's issue, it's about software optimization, and I'm sure there are plenty out there will have this kind of issue.

Anyone is welcome to keep trying BTD6 gores beyond 1080p... ... and see the issues later...

LOL... ok...

like CatChu is saying.... the game doesnt support anything beyond 1080p

must admit frames locked at 60fps dont seem much
different to when they were fluctuating all over the place...

and i sit 76cm / 30inches or so away from the screen

60fps is fine by me... thanks again CatChu

oh no... lol...

the game plays has been really stable on my computer for some time
i just didnt like the way the fps fluctuated all over the place..

does seem silly to have 1000fps for the main menu

I am not sure if locking FPS to 60 is the same as allowing the game to use in-game default Vsync option... But if you happen to tweak Global setting before to off Vsync, this game might be affected. Because by default, the Vsync is on.
But human eyes cannot see an insane amount of FPS. Sometimes FPS counter can be silly.
