For instance a bomb tower can destroy lead by default, and you can give it camo vision with a x2x villagey < the village will almost always be your main ANTIcamo support
another way is a ninja combined with a 2xx (or better) alchemist
in general a MIB ( x3x village) will the trick it basicly allows any monkey in range to damage every bloon, however always think about if you realy need it.. sometimes it's just a relativly expensive upgrade wich does almost nothing
just think about your build order and learn at what point you gonna need a certain tower / amount of popping power.. like there're countless ways to get/complete wave 49
Dart ( X/X/5 can pop camo lead, same for 4/0/2, or 0/5/2 with ability)
Ice (4/X/X can pop camo lead)
Sniper (2/1/0 can pop camo lead, same for 0/1/5)
Heli (3/2/0 can pop camo lead, same for 0/2/4 with the secondary helis)
Ace (0/2/0 can pop camo lead.)
Ship (0/2/2 can pop camo lead.)
Mage (4/0/2 can pop, same for 0/2/2)
Ninja (0/0/3 can pop them with the bombs)
Super (2/0/2 can pop them, 0/4/2 can pop them too)
Village (5/2/0 can pop them)
Spike factory (2/X/X can pop them)
Engineer (X/3/X can pop them. Not sure for the X/X/4, maybe can)
Other than that : Any tower with a lead pop (Basically : Every Boom Boom and Fire tower) can with a 0/2/0 village.
As a matter of fact, any tier 4 sniper can pop leads, so x4x or 410 or 014 sniper can pop lead camo and you forgot 4xx sub
everything else is too expensive until mid-game
this is difficult to afford until later in the game
There are just tons of options to destroy camo Leads or even DDT in Round 90, 93, 95, 99.
It is very hard to answer, depending on what do you mean by ultimately "the best".
If you actually playing the game you can answer it by yourself, while players in here already list tons of options. Because this game is quite
for most parts.
However, the thing is that many new players don't know the hidden power of the game, such as certain towers suddenly can pops Lead when reaching Tier 5. Interestingly, Sniper is the only tower with hidden Tier 4 Lead popping power, regardless of cross path.
What makes this game unique is that this game don't hand-holding you and tells you everything, especially the Tier 5 upgrades (except Tier 4 Sniper's mystery?). Even if we got updates that make the descriptions even more transparent, one might still digging Wiki and Forums for answer.
It is also boring to use same strategy, or some of them are not practical, not available. There are a lot of situations to change strategy.
For example, 0-1-3 MOAB Glue is a common cheap option to counter DDT's insane speed if camo issue solved; however a 2-0-4 MOAB Glue can indirectly damage any camo bloons without detection. A 2-0-0 Spike Factory pops Lead, but transition it into 2-0-5 would be less effective than a 0-2-5. 4-X-X Ice detects and remove Camo, but lack of attack speed made it hard to deal with fast camo bloons.
Not every type of game modes hands out everything you can use. Some are not available, such as Hard Odyssey mode, with Extreme mode, Challenge, Race mode, Alternate Bloon Rounds, Primary/Military/Magic Only, etc.
So... ... have fun explore the game!
Like you, I have played a lot of TD during the whole flash era and early mobile gaming, where TD genre truly shines. Until most die out or lack of actually meaningful ways to let players engage in-game.
Aside from Orc Must Die Unchained and Bloons, no other TD games can hook me for 3 digits hours.
This is mainly bcs they lacks of versatility. For example, Kingdrom Rush & Frontier most heroes will waste all abilities just to overkill a weak enemy, which made most heroes but starter Hero actually far more superior thanks to passive.
Orc Must Die Unchained don't just rely on 3rd person shooting to hook up players. It also relies on Heroes, Traps and parts combo.
When talking about the solution of Lead/DDT popping by using Heroes in BTD6, it could really leads to long story. For example Gwendolin sometimes enhances nearby towers for powerful attack. Obyn only buff specific groups, but it can make Durid's Warth initially stronger, trap R59 camo Leads with Trees, Totem slow DDT, etc.
BTD6 is a very heavy balance focused TD games, unlike BTD5. Which is why you see the game don't initially introduce Engineer and Dartling. It is a truly easy but hard to master game, many things to explore.
