I really hate the fact DDTs have black properties
Like when you first hear about DDTs you think "oh, fast lead blimps, cool, I'll just get things that are really good at killing blimps while not being blocked by leads and we should be good", and then you realize that a ton of anti-moab upgrades are completely useless against DDTs. A list:

top path Monkey Ace's missiles
Aircraft Carrier and Flagship Carrier's anti moab missiles
Monkey Sub's ballistic missiles
Most bomb towers, even when given camo detection

It's frustrating to get things that are supposed to be good against moabs, works against lead things, and just not work all of a sudden.

This is the reason why a lot of people opt for 030 village to take them down couple with a few stalls like 040 ninja or 003 glue.

You can also slow them down heavily with 0-2-5 ice monkey + village 2-3-0
but they are for sure the most dangerous bloon class even worse than bad's many times

Now that you mention it, ice impaling the ddt looks something out of Star Trek, where it looks like a bunch of ships coming out of light speed to a full stop.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out strategies for dam chimps mode, which obviously heavily incentivizes military monkeys and especially boats. It's surprising how many things just don't work. I know about freezing the water to allow for a village to be built, but I was hoping for a cheaper option that didn't involve me blowing some 40K gold. So far all I got are things like dumb subs with Ettiene support, Admiral level 3, pre-emptive strike, and Flagship Carrier kind of.

I don't mind ddts having lead property, I feel like the game is well balanced around that, especially considering that many tier 5s just get lead popping power. But the black property just removes so many options, often with little rhyme or reason.

Archmage + Apache prime.

Lol when I first read the title I thought you were being racist to bloons but now I know you were talking about the cannon weakness XD

The reason why DDT has black bloon property is because it actually makes Hard and Freeplay rounds more fun to do, instead of just blindly spam towers that have the best DPS against MOAB.

Even so, there are a lot of things surprise you if you go explore them.

Even with Level 19 Striker's passive and recent Assassin's buff, they're terrible in group against fast moving DDTs. Despite you can nuke or stun with ability, you may be gonna need more than just a 023 Glue and multiple 024 Boomerang.

You can spend the extra cash to prepare for R90-100, such as stalling towers I mentioned.

Oh wait, how to build on water? Carrier Flagship + Larger Radius Arctic Wind.
(There is CHIMPS video around that however I don't want spoil it here)

Tier 5 upgrades is always written in hidden mode, this is to encourage player to do exploration.
(Or read Wiki if lazy to test in Sandbox. Well it actually says "The Bloons will wish they had never come.", pretty self-explanatory, right?)

Also Carrier Flagship
Patch 18.0
- 15% attack rate buff expanded to now also benefit Monkey Ace in addition to Water Towers.

Sadly Flagship's plane missles don't pop DDT because of
Patch 17.0
- Double Shot now also doubles the numbers of grapes as well.
(I don't need to explain this)

That's why we got Admiral Brickell! Cannot pop black? No problem!
If activating ability is still a problem, you're going to be happy with this:

Patch 18.0
- Pre-Emptive Strike's ability missiles and ballistic missiles can deal 2x more damage if nearby Sub Commander. Doesn't affect First Strike Capability ability missiles.

Yes, Pre-Emptive's "auto-missile" can hit DDT. I repeat, it can hit DDT.
If worrying about children and non-DDT, Patch 18.0 introduces range increase and bottom path interactions to the middle path too. Patch 19.0 decreased the buff. (and maybe the "auto-missile" get reduced buff in future patch)

Yeah DDTs being basically fast camo lead MOABs, but also immune to explosives might throw you for a loop the first time or so. However, there are many good ways to deal with them.

The cookie cutter way is x3x Monkey Village (MiB) which allows all towers in range to pop any type of Bloon (and allowing them to see camo because of x2x). Explosives can pop Black bloons, Ice can pop White, Sharp can pop Lead, etc. etc.

An Avatar of Wrath with 5 Poplusts under a MiB can pretty much solo the game on most maps. Icicle Impale (025 Ice Monkey) helps a lot with the heavy stall it provides. Not to mention all the explosives options (I don't use Bomb Shooters much myself).

If you are looking for stand-alone towers to deal with DDTs or contribute a lot of damage towards them, you can consider these:

Crossbow Master 025. Crossbow Master can innately pop leads by himself so he doesn't need support at all because bottom path gives him camo detection (but a top path Village can buff him a lot). You can usually get him by Round 60 on the easier maps (though you might as well get a Sun Avatar) and he'll deal with all of the rounds very easily.

Sun Avatar

Archmage (502 crosspath is better). Archmage also comes with his own Shimmer to strip camo, which is faster than xx3 path's Shimmer. He's a very good value Tier 5 Tower.

x52 Monkey Buccaneers target DDTs with their Grappling Hook Ability. If you give them camo detection from Crow's Nest upgrade or a Radar Scanner Village.

Apache prime, archmage, and sun avatar are all excellent damage dealers. A combination of any two should take care of even round 99, the only round where fortified DDT's spawn.

Spirit of the forest helps on long maps too. You should consider berserking any monkey's you choose to be your main damage dealers, also using a hero that buffs their pierce, or using a x3x village.

buff ninjas and a grandmaster while using x3x village and other buffs should work aswell.
6 poplusts with obyn, one of them being avatar of wrath, again, with x3x village They can delete every round, not just DDT's.

For slow, glue, ninja sabotages, some good ice tower is helpful.

Or if you like cheesing it and not intend on countering them in chimps, you can always farm and get 200.000 dollars and do whatever you want and demolish everything.

There are many more I believe, but I am not that good so that is all what I can say. They are not cancer and are very beatable. You just have to plan on countering them like everything else before you start round 1. They give the game some more depth.
