Whats the best way to get tower xp?
im trying to unlock tier 5s but i have to do 3 medium matches where i place hundreds nothing except the tower im unlocking the t5 of but it still takes a while

Generally speaking, Deflation is considered the go-to option. being able to skip all the useless early rounds is invaluable.

Plus it lets you start with the tower you want to level immediately. If you're just playing generally then rush and spam what you're levelling.

Play your favorite map on Hard modes until you unlock Impoppable.

This is by far the best tower leveling mode as you get much more XP before freeplay (round 0-100).

Remember to deploy the least amount of towers to get the most out of your XP.

Besides what everyone else has said, you should also get monkey education (support knowledge) and elite military training (military knowledge.. duh) to help you out.

The total amount of towers does not increase the experience the tower receives. Each round has an experience amount that is awarded to the towers, based on the total amount of money invested in each tower.

For example, lets say the round gives 1,000 experience. If you have $1,000 invested in dart monkeys and $3,000 invested in super monkeys, you would receive 750 experience for the super monkey and 250 experience for the dart monkey.

I did wonder how exactly it worked.

When I was clearing up the last few towers I needed T5s on, I basically just cleared levels using only the tower in question if at all possible. Really wasn't worth fussing over getting extra experience talents in the MK tree over using them for something that might actually benefit me in the long run.

playing maps on hard buys you time to get the higher tier upgrades.


unlike BTD5, you earn more xp for a tower if you have a lot of fully-upgraded of that tower.

i.e. if you're trying to unlock flame spit, it's better to have 5 2/2/0 wizards than 15 0/0/0 wizards.

therefore, if you want the tier 5 upgrades for say, the gatling gun, you'll want to buy as many 4/x/x or x/4/x gatlings as possible. try to run your entire defense off of just that one tower, if possible.


i wouldn't FOCUS on unlocking tho, just playing the game will make it happen naturally.

The exp gained is round based. This exp is divided between tower types that are being used according to their total costs out of the total cost of all towers used. It does NOT matter if you spam 0/0/0 or upgraded towers. If you want to get exp faster on one tower, you need to increase the ratio of money used on that tower type vs other types. Sell tower types you have already maxed if you want to focus on unlocking all the upgrades. Just don't die doing it. Hero also effects this (total cost of towers placed), but I don't know only the hero build cost does or if their level (or buying levels) does. I think only hero build cost but could be wrong.

It's "spend" money, so heroes wont take much xp. No clues about instant monkeys though.
