Merchantmen have a base efficiency of 16
Favoured trades have 18
A trade empire with 10 merchantmen is 13
... Dropping as low as 8 with the maximum 30 merchantmen
A bank on the other hand is 10 (With MK)
and a bottom path one is 14/16
Efficiency being the number of rounds on normal difficulty to repay itself
Generally banks will be better than boats, and banks can be used to buy the monkeyopolis.
Supply drop is actually your lowest though, with 1 activation per round i believe it is 9, and unlike trade empire it does not need boats to achieve this.
Supply drop is not included in the guide because it is RNG based and thus impossible to test.
