Game recently locked itself to 20FPS
So, this isn't an issue with my computer stuttering, etc. I've played the game just fine up until now. However, I just tried playing today (And tried a few things I could thing of to try to fix the issue, none worked) and the game was locked at 20FPS. Exactly 20, confirmed through Steam.

This essentially means I can't use speed up, and the game runs slower than the default speed compared to when it was running appropriately (I assume it only utilized 60fps, but nevertheless I had ~400fps).

If anyone happens to know a solution to the game locking itself to unplayablely slow speeds, I would appreciate it. No idea how it happened.

i want you to open your steam folder

Steam > Steamapps > common > Btd6.

i want you to then look for config files. open them with textDoc or note pad. look for any settings related to fps.

its not the best advice but its a start. if you can locate that stuff in config, simply edit and save.

Funny, i actually noticed this with other games and not this, id only really suggest a simple restart or verify cache, as that somewhat worked for me in those situations.

Do you have gsync enabled? The fps is known to be capped at 20 when the setting ''Fullscreen and windowed mode'' is enabled. Set it to Fullscreen only and the problem should go away.

Alright, things to note based on all of this:
I do not have GSync, but interesting enough, there is no "Fullscreen and windowed" option for me, there's only Fullscreen. Unless you're referring to a nVidia specific setting in which case I haven't set any for Bloons, but I'll try setting some specifically to perhaps counteract and get back.

I didn't know if editing the config files was a no-no in Bloons (It's actually gotten me banned from online activity in some games for just trying to fix issues :^) ), but if it's not I'll happily do so. I'm quite used to that.

I've restarted a few times, but thank you. I'll verify the cache one more time as well, but I won't hold out too much hope.

Regardless, thank you all for trying and I'll get back to this post after I've tried some more things :)

Edit a week later:
None of the things fixed it, but it eventually just kind of.. Fixed itself. I haven't figured out the cause yet, if I ever do I'll say here in case anyone else ever has this issue. As it stands, it came and it went and I have no idea why.

I promised I'd say if I ever figured out what caused it for everyone else's sake, and as ashamed as I am that it took me this long to notice.. I figured it out. So, since the problem still exists, it's worth mentioning for anyone else.

So, if you run a 2 monitor setup you need to be careful. Especially if one of those monitors is a TV. I usually have my displays set up as duplicates, doesn't hurt anything in most cases. But for some reason, when I run BTD6 with my TV and Monitor acting as duplicates, it locks the frame rate to 20 FPS.

Again, no other game does this which is strange. But, that was the issue nevertheless :) Hopefully this helps at least 1 other person down the road. If you turn off 1 monitor in your settings, or set them as extended displays rather than duplicate.. 60 FPS. Cheers, folks.

I would like to add my two cents on this. Thank you so much to Sakaru for posting his fix! It seemed to have solved the problem for me.

I have a four screen set-up, my main 4k monitor flanked by two ancient dell monitors, and then a TV off to the side in front of my bed that was duplicating the right side monitor.

I didn't change the settings, i simply unplugged the TV, and now my FPS is not capped.

However, I also notice one furthur idiosyncracy in my situation. I run bloons full-screen on my main monitor, and generally have other tabs open on the side (also no gsyn for me). My FPS was only capped if Bloons was the selected application. If Bloons was the selected application or primary application, then it was capped at 20 FPS, but if i clicked off to the side applications on my left or right screens, then suddenly the FPS was back to 60 (its a 60 hz monitor). When i clicked back into Bloons, the FPS locked back to 20.

So, if you have this problem and and want to have the quickest fix possible, then you might try bringing up a small window in front of bloons and have bloons in the background. idk if task manager would do this for example.
