a few maps and 2 towers
Exactly my point
Would I have preferred the game cost $20 originally and had no microtransactions? Of course.
I understand that the dev's are also trying to make a living off of this, they aren't just making these games for fun so something small like double cash is fine. Now if they had locked tower tier 5 upgrades behind a paywall I'd be up in arms.
If you are wondering why it cost more than the base game? That's for good reason. You can enable double cash mode to essentially make every non-chimps game mode very easy. You are paying extra because you are getting a way to cheese the game and all future content they are bringing to you. (Outside of co-op)
Personally I don't think they should have easy mode locked behind a pay wall, but if they did change it to be free; I think they could do some cool exclusives for people who had paid for it to begin with. (Maybe some golden monkey skins or something)
Either way the game's still getting better with each update, but if they start adding DLC skins (So skins you can't get with monkey cash) I'm gonna be a lil upset if they dont add back in the features that were free in BTD5.
The OP is welcome to expect more but if the game costs $10 (1/6th the cost of a AAA game) then you really shouldn't expect everything in the game to be free.
I disagree with this, when I pay for a game, I should expect everything to be free (10 eur games a while back every thing was free)
Well everyone is welcome to their own opinion I've already stated mine. :)
I really don't wanna take part in the conversation much more than I already have, but I'm just gonna say $10 for a game isn't cheap. lol Yes it isn't the price of an AAA game, but that's because it's not an AAA game. Stardew Valley cost $15, and has the amount of content you'd expect for $15. Same for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, OwlBoy's $17, Gris is $17. None of those games are the price of AAA games, but they all have extensive amounts of free content, and all look really good.
And I'm not even saying NK can't have paid content in-game, and infact I'd rather they did have that option if it meant we could have ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ instead of DLC skins. I'm just saying that OP's not wrong for expecting more of a company, and you should expect more too!
Double $$$ was never anything I used in BTD5, but that's just because I didn't want to make the game a lot easier. If someone did want to make the game easier though they should be allowed to without a paywall, or with a payment only making it easier to unlock. (Similar to how you can unlock skills & everything quickly by paying for them. I think that's fair since at-least you can get them for free if you wait long enough.)
(P.S. For missing content I was referring to towers, but like I said in my OG post it's getting better with every update so I expect that to be fixed.)
There's nothing wrong with expecting "more" but you should be realistic with your expectations, they are a company that needs to make profit so I think having "double cash mode" locked behind a paywall is pretty reasonable especially considering that the skins (which were behind a paywall in BTD5) are available for free.
Personally I much prefer having skins earnable in-game over having double cash mode earnable in-game. My own opinion though.
Easy mode already exists in the game and it is just that- easy. If someone can't beat a harder difficulty and just activates double cash mode they aren't learning to overcome the challenge they are simply activating a "cheat mode" that's available in-game. It's fair to have lazy people pay more money for their convenience and lots of games do that.
BTD 6 costs $10 (less currently) and you can easily spend 50 hours in this game so the amount of free content you get is most definitely what you paid for.
I also wouldn't say it's fair to compare this game to best sellers such as Stardew Valley or Binding of Isaac. Those are very popular games that make many many more sales than BTD does.
BTD6 Steam on the other hand is linked and is a cross platform game in every sense. Since the two versions are practically intertwined, any modification to the price would likely be applied tot the other version.
Basically, reducing or nullifying the cost of certain IAPs on Steam would mean the same would be likely done to the mobile version, since they are the same game. If BTD6 was a separate game like BTD5 Steam is, then the game lacking IAPs would make sense and therefore be justified.
I hope this was able to clear things up.
