Because they want to preserve the brand, just in case they ever decide to make another mainstream fighting game.

Honestly, hiding it behind an easily circumvented region lock is the best thing that could have ever happened to it. It's like the flimsy curtain that separates the adult section from the rest of the bookstore. If you want those books out in the front of the store, you're going to have to start making compromises, like cleaning up the cover art. Leave it behind the curtain, and there's no compromises.

My knowledge on the whole "not outside of Asia" release with the DoAX series is because DoAX and DoAX2 both flopped HARD outside of Asia. KT didn't see the reason to spend the effort and money to localize any future releases of the series. Remember there is a lot of red tape involved with getting games green lit in different regions, especially dealing with PEGI and the ESRB. If they didn't think it was cost effective to drop a Gatcha style, free to play game (which usually PRINT money), they aren't going to do it.

Will just casually remind everyone, regarding Xtreme 3, the then president of SIE Shuhei Yoshida's words regarding a lack of a proper Western release: "It's due to cultural differences. The West has its own thinking about how to depict women in games media which is different from Japan."

So, yeah, back then KT was aware of the...almost uniquely American outrage about this kind of stuff, and their viewpoint probably hasn't changed since. Be glad you can at least get the game with a VPN.

It's not whether or not I believe him. It's that the highest authoritative party has given reasons on why the previous game never released outside of Asia, which would extend to this version, too.
