Strategic Command WWII: World at War

Amphibious Attacks Are Too Strong - Ridiculously So
It's early 1945 and I have a fully upgraded German 10th Army defending the coastal hex 87.42, southeast of Cherborg. The 10th Army has maximum experience and is attached to the Von Manstein HQ which also has maximum experience. The army has 7 supply. German national morale is 95% (by comparison, UK morale is 35% and USA morale is 38%). The readiness of my units is usually over 100%. This single experienced army has easily been holding off waves of green UK and USA corps and army attacks in a single turn. If they are lucky they inflict 1 damage and in turn they take 2 or 3 damage. Then a green Canadian army in an amphibious landing craft moves into the sea hex at 87,41, adjacent to my defending army and does 4 damage with its attack.

This single amphibious assault did more damage than the cumulative effort of 4 British and USA corps and armies which started their attack on land. I've seen this before when 2 USA amphibious landing craft completely destroyed my entrenched German special forces unit defending Algiers.

I'm sure the game designers of Strategic Command WWII: World at War are familiar with military history and the difficulty of amphibious assaults both in WW2, WW1, and earlier incidents in history. So it is a curious decision why they allowed amphibious landing craft to be so disproportionately powerful to actual armies starting their attack on land. Is this solution meant to solve the problem of the Pacific theatre island hopping campaign?

♥♥♥♥ sapiens are not amphibians, we are land based mammals who are more effective starting an attack with our feet on the ground, not jumping off of a boat, wading through water, and crawling up sandy beaches under enemy fire. A single amphibious landing craft should not do more damage than 4 corps and armies (plus aircraft and shore bombardment) that have been ineffectually trying to punch a hole through that hex for many turns.

It's a game, not reality. Carboard/virtual soldiers behave differently than in real life.
Or just maybe . . .
Those Canadians are tough, and they kicked your 10th Army's rear end. Your 10th Army was so scared of facing those Canadians many ran away and no wonder they suffered a 4 hit as compared to facing those wimpy English and Americans.
If anything 4 hits is way low against those wicked Canadians! It should be 6 or 8!
