I am playing the Axis and I am being overwhelmed by hordes of Chinese infantry. How am I supposed to stop them. They seem awfully powerful

Well, apparently MP players on the game's main forum wants to nerf the crap out of Axis though - and one of their claim is that China gets destroyed too fast...

Keep up with research, and mind your supply status along with your HQ's.

Good luck! :)

I guess I'm gonna have to start over. There has to be about 29 or more infantry there. Grrrrr

I do try to keep up on my research. I guess I have to buy more infantry

Keep your units supply at 5+ by using your HQ:s in right places. Use your planes and maybe artillery. First medium bombers, they will destroy entrenchment and morale. After that tactical bombers. Then infantry should finish the job. You can destroy about 1 Chinese unit per turn in first 2 years. China do not have money to resist that.

wow, that's exactly what i have been doing and they're still many units. I even took Nanning early

So what is the best way to try and conquer China?

I don't usually fully conquer China. It doesn't give axis victory points or enough MPP. Japan has more important things to do. Chinese front is more like a sidekick in this game.

Build 3-4 garrison units to replace all forces in Manchuria. Defend your railroads. Research mobility and infantry weapons as soon as possible. Then China is just a matter of time.

Just about all the Strategic Command games revolve heavily around what I call supporting units aka mainly Tanks, Arty in WW1 and Tanks, Air in WW2. Essentially don't try and win a quick war with china by ramming your infantry into them, make conservative trades while keeping your infantry at least on par with theirs and invest in research for your aircraft and tanks until they are able to smash through the Chinese lines and lead encirclements/threaten HQs.

but what is the ultimate objective? If I go anywhere near chunking Mao falls in with the nationalists.

Depends on your goals. want to win the war by the games rules? push back the chinese a bit, so you can maintain a borberguard with less units and strike the soviets as the germans can, you win by taking out the SU.
Want to take out china? Build airpower, add motorization to some of the units, and push back, block the us aid route and kill units, after a point china will not be able to rebuild their units, and you continue until they are out, airpower is the solution. it will be good elsewhere anyway.

Thank you for the advice. It worked out very well for me. Question: Is there a way to get aircraft from europe/asia/africa into the americas? To support an invasion there.
