What does a - 50% and - 100% difficulty actually do?
I see where the AI gets 10% or 20% less MPP or MMP (forgot the abbrev.) but what does, say, -50% AI actually mean? The AI appears as smart as before, perhaps smarter. Same at - 100%. Thanks.

Reading the manual I see that the - 50% and -100% represent the ammount of MPP the AI will get when capturing a country or territory (a reduction from the full value).

There are default settings associated with each difficulty level that can then also be customized such as the bonus MPP, extended spotting ranges as well as the increased experience bonuses that AI units will receive. Beyond that there are some additional script effects that are tied into the difficulty levels such as extra units for the AI at key points in game depending and so on.

Wait, does this mean that we can turn the difficulty to Expert, then manually lower the bonus sliders back to zero (normal) and the AI will still have the additional script effects, without the artificial strength/vision/MPP bonuses?

It sure does!
