Some square based ones are as well, its not dependant on the shape of the grid.
Well regardless, why are these games so expensive? Like Grisby's strategy game, all you do is move units around and try to take over a few objectives and win - I just feel like these games are overpriced for what they are, that's all.

If you think Grisgby's War in the East/West or Strategic Command 3 Europe is that simple I'd challenge you to play some PBEM games. They are very hard to master and attact people like me who enjoy complex large scale WW2 games. I will agree the Grisgby games are pricey but you can buy them on sale now.

How much do you think it should be?

I played some old ones for like Windows XP and a little older, I forgot the name of the games, they were in a bargain bin, they were good games, wish I knew which ones I played.

20, max. But that's just my opinion.

Just wait for the next sale - the game will be just as good if you wait, probably better.

This game is expensive ($40 IS a lot of money for a rather simple game) because not many people will buy it and the people who made it need to eat and pay rent.

It's a niche game by a small company. But Matrix/Sliterine has been more frequent with sales so just wait.

Most likely because those types of games are really a niche, so in order to get a decent return it requires a increase cost.

Many Hex games are cheap with bare bone interface. I been burned by too many. Looking for that perfect one that reminds me of the 90s glory games like Robert E Lee Civil War. I bought games like Commander the Great War, Army General, Advanced Tactics, Order of Battle with many DLC's and the only one im satisfied with is Panzer Corps. Im not even happy with the Hearts of Iron series even though there interface is a lot better. If they just put the effort of a cheap science fiction 4x game, these games would be awesome. I think the biggest disapointment was hearing that Panzer Strategy was bad.

I thought that originally myself but Civ6 is very expensive and that is a very popular game so that doesnt ring true. Usually games that are very popular are expensive because there is a demand. Call of Duty is massively expensive for example. These games are not popular so should be lower priced,. There is a sweet spot for games prices and I still dont think Slitherine has found it yet.

This game is rather expensive for what it is, I am a fan of their genre and I had to think very carefully whether to buy it or not and very nearly didn't buy it. I am still not convinced I should have bought it at that price. My gut feeling is this game should have been priced at around £22 - £25. Its not going to get many sales at all priced over £30. And that's a shame because it a good game.

I feel the same, I mean there's a lot of "niche" games out there and that doesn't give a game an excuse to be super expensive. Economy based games are a niche game and there isn't many and they're generally priced around 20 bucks. There isn't much depth here, maybe hard but a hard game doesn't mean depth.

Your responsibility as consumers in a market economy is to refuse to pay prices that are too high. You are the biggest part of the problem if you believe the games are overpriced: only by people not buying overpriced games do publishers learn to charge less. It seems they are not learning that lesson. Probably because people are buying their games. Which means their games are objectively worth what they are charging...

I don’t regard them as expensive, if you realize relatively sales numbers the amount of time that goes into historical research. Granted, some engine are a bit long in the tooth, but this one is pretty refined and reasonably priced.
