Learning the game: WIE or WAW?
I have both games and I want to learn the system. Would WIE be the best place to start or WAW?

WiE is a little more compact as you don't have to deal with Asia, etc.

I see what everyone is talking about. Benelux is only about 5 hexes in WAW and a good 15 or so in WIE. Seems quite a trade off

WaW is better to get in in my eyes though, esp as WIE takes alot more turns for one playthrough (if you start in 39) and having actually more units to move around than world at war, world at war in my eyes is more about the grand strategy and a bit fictunal history while War in Europe mostly forces you to stay close to the history but allows for more flexibility on the tactical/local combat by having more units to move.
If you wanna play Multiplayer I think WaW is better as moves like: oh turkey just joined the axis? Rip the caucasus! or, british navy arrives at pearl harbour to save the day are really great.

Waw is more of an overview game whereas WIE is more detailed in Europe obviously. I dont think either one is better than the other or easier to learn. My advice is to just start a game and learn as you play. But for me WAW is the better game just because it covers the whole war, and personally I am greatly enjoying the Chinese/Japanese war. But certainly the hexes cover a larger area in WAW which does lead to less detailed individual conflicts whilst covering more of the whole war itself.
