Which is better - Online Play, or Remote Play Together?

In the past, I've played this game with a friend, using the game's built in Online Play.
However, since then, Steam has introduced the concept of Remote Play Together.
Now I'm wanting to play the game with another friend.
And I'm wondering - should my friend have their own copy of the game, to play Online Play, or would it be better for us to play in Remote Play Together with just my copy?
Has anyone actually tried both methods, and found out which is better?

Remote Play has noticeable input delay, as it does with most games (though that might just be me, as friends only report it being offputting in my sessions and not in the ones they host). Online play is the better choice, it relies on the game's netcode. Steam will log playtime for your friend even if they don't own the game, so they may as well own it (unless they don't care about achievements at all).
