The game can be replayed doing some runs and mechanics are really smooth.
At first I had your same feeling - if you've watched some playthroughs and you like this kind of games, I'd say buy this game - quality over quantity.
The amorphous creature was really well done, and it seems to me the dev really likes what is creating.
This is my personal opinion, you choose what is best.
Despite Metroidvania-like general feel to it, the whole thing is pretty linear and the amount of backtracking you do is pretty limited, unless the game specifically guides you to certain places.
The levels are not TOO convoluted and given that I really do not understand all the cries for the map feature.
As for the game itself - it is very polished - the movement, the feel, general gameplay - all is smooth and tied dogether really, really well. The level design is also good and never really feels "gamey".
So yeah, it is short, very short but I honestly do not regret the money spent here.
If you still don't want to pay that much, just wait for the game to go on sale (it will eventually)
absolutely love the game!
The first time you play the game you've no idea where anything is, so you waste a lot of time going backwards and forwards looking for things. By the second run-through you know what you have to do and where everything is and the order it needs doing. By the third play-through you've got everything down to pat, zero wasted movements, and 100% efficiency.
If the carrion trailer was developed into a full anime, then it would be the monster from that third play-through, max brutality.
I reckon I got my money's worth, though like the Carrion itself, I'm still hungry for more.
