I get your point though, not everyone can get into pixel like graphics.
Somedthing for those that want it but doesn't change the game for the people who like pixel art stuff... like me... I really really seem to like it heheh. I dunno just thoughts.
With 3D, it is much harder to animate objects and give proper detail (mainly texturing). Personally, I think the humans NPCs could already use some work, but if they were in 3D, it's unlikely the devs would go great lengths to animate hair and clothes, as they seem to be in the footage. I already think the world could be more unique, but if it was 3D, then I think it would repeat its assets even more.
Another advantage of 2D, is that we get to see walls, ground and ceiling's cross-section depth. We can see the blood, or organic waste, stained into these surfaces. That wouldn«t happen with 3D or 2.5D.
To finalize. 2.5D games usually give the sensation of disparity between spacious areas in the depth at where the player moves and the far off background. Another problem is that climbing and dropping from platforms never looks decent.
Pirates and Space Zombies did not translate well to 3D.. Risk of Rain translated extremely well to 3D. I'm not sure this would benefit from the 3D treatment though because of all the particle sim stuff going on.. they'd have to do it right I guess, it's not happening for Carrion 1 obviously.
