Original RE3 overrated
For its time I understand why it was considered great. The gameplay is solid, and graphically it was a step up in pre rendered backgrounds from RE2 and character models were also much improved. At the time, it was a great looking game.

But now that time has passed in comparison to RE2 original I don’t think it has anything at all on RE2 in terms of atmosphere, story or interesting characters.

It also doesn’t do as good a job at horror or jump scares as RE2 did. Characters both good and bad are all pretty bland… there isn’t much story there other than survive & escape the city.

People act like Re3 remake had some grand legacy to live up to but really… RE3 was always a mediocre resident evil game that paled in comparison to the series’ best entries (RE1,RE2 and RE4)

The remake could have vastly improved on original RE3 because the streets of raccoon city has always had huge potential for an incredible RE game but sadly they chose to keep RE3s mediocrity in tact when they remade it.

The way I see it, RE3 Remake was meant to be as realistic as possible. The gravedigger didn't appear because Jill's path was different than the original. She never went to the tram station. She didn't spend any time near Raccoon City Hall or enter Raccoon Park, so it makes sense the gravedigger didn't find her. Events in the game happened in a smaller space and in a much shorter period of time, which would, in real life, make certain events happen and others not.

If it wasn't outsourced to M-Two, the game would've had more content such as Mercenary mode: Operation Jackal, Grave Digger, Clock Tower, Cemetery, RC park, City Hall, Live selection, Giant Spiders, more puzzles to solve, etc.

Honestly I don’t even care about the cut content. None of the the locations they cut were really interesting anyway.

Ask yourself was the clock tower really even all that special in the original RE3? There’s no meaning or backstory behind the locations in RE3 they were all just bland style of substance locations.

The dead factory was the only location that really had any backstory or meaning and it wasn’t anything to write home about.

Thank you for making sense. I'm tired of seeing people crying about "cut" content as if CAPCOM was oblidged to keep everything from the classic. People were even crying about spiders and crows for god's sake...

But I think the crying about the lame "ballistics" line in RE4 has now taken the lead!

It's fun, yes.

It's just kinda short. So get it on sale.

I fully agree, I played the original RE3 several times on the PS1 , It was definitely fun, but very short, at the time it did feel like "DLC" before that term ever existed. The Nemesis was scripted, a lot of the assets from RE2 were reused in the original RE3 with a disappointing final battle with Nemesis. There was no horror, it was basically an action game with fixed camera angles. Our human memories aren't reliable and often times it does sound like some RE fans remember a game that never actually existed, nostalgia is a funny thing.

And then we got the remake of RE3, which kind of sums up how I felt about the original, it's a fun game, again very short by today's standards, reused assets once more etc. It feels like we've never had a proper sequel to RE2 , and it would have been nice if Capcom instead of remaking RE4 , made a sequel that lives up to the standards set by RE2.

Summed up my thoughts perfectly. That potential for RE3 "streets of Raccoon" Jill Valentine survival horror masterpiece has always been there. It is and always was an incredible concept with tons of potential.... but it's like they've fumbled the ball twice... the remake was such a great opportunity to vastly outdo the original and possibly create one of the greatest Resident Evil games of all time. A true modern day streets of Raccoon city surivial horror esxperience. I mean, lets face it the streets of Raccoon City are incredibly iconic in the series.... I just feel that we really need that modern RE game that gives us exactly that....

I guess one could argue that RE3 gave us a glimpse of it but it was such a short little tease. An additional 2-3 hours of expanded streets section would've done wonders for the REmake.

I could care less about the clock tower just give me more streets, way more zombies, more Nemesis, more horror, and instead of a second lab at the end of the game very similar to RE2 Remake lab give us the dead factory from the original so the last section feels more unique and I think the game would've been soooooo much better... likely considered one of the greatest RE games ever. Story could've been expanded even more thanit was to make it more interesting than the original.

Clock tower was pretty overrated imo. I was perfectly fine with them just giving it a nod in the REmake.

you forgot Code Veronica. originally code veronica was going to be RE3 . and RE3 was gonna be the off shoot , but capcom switched them because RE3 was further along in development and capcom wanted a title ready for what would be the PS1's last x-mas season before next gen consoles started launching. so code veronica got pushed to Dreamcast devlopment for (at the time) next gen. and Re3 got pushed as RE3 for curent gen.

but yeah compared to RE2 , Re3 was very underwhelming back in the day. the series went from 2 campaigns in a single game , that each had senario A and B, and the A and B scenarios were quite different, plus alternates with every item mixed around for all scenarios and campaigns. Down to just one campaign in Re3 that had alternate pathing. and that's not even bringing up the "after game" bonus stuff like the tofu run throughs and what not.

I'm kinda disapointed that capcom is choosing to remake Re4 but no work on a RE:CV remake (which the original never got a PC release )

as said to the OP. code veronica was originally intented to be RE3. but Capcom wanted a title quick to catch what would be the last X-mas season for the PS1. what became RE3 was further along in development So they renamed both projects ,made RE3 for PS1 and pushed CV back for next gen development as the offshoot , instead of it being RE3. if you missed out on code veronica back in the day you really missed out on what was a real sucessor to RE2.

Actually, Resident Evil 3 was originally intended to have Hunk trying to retrieve a G-Virus sample from a cruise ship.

Code: Veronica, although a true sequel to RE2, was originally planned to be a spin-off released on Dreamcast as an apology to Sega fans because RE2 wasn't released on Sega Saturn.

What is now Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was also supposed to be a spin off and the last RE title for Sony's PS1, before the original RE3 was released for PS2.

However, the the original RE3 with hunk couldn't make it in time with the release of the PS2 so it got scrapped and RE3: Nemesis for PS1 took its place, with Sony buying the rights for the RE3 title and releasing it as "Resident Evil 3".

So they started developing Resident Evil 4 for PS2 but the game was very different and they turned it to Devil May Cry. Dante and Virgil was supposed to be Spencer's sons/biological creations.

I believe most of RE players think RE1, RE2 and RE4 are better than RE3 though RE3 is quite a good game in RE series.

Don't insult RE 3 by comparing it to RE 4, the worst game in the franchise!

- "Good story and interesting characters"
- The whole story happens because Leon missed the beginning of the apocalypse as he had literally got s:papyruswacky::papyruswacky::papyruswacky:-faced for a few days straight
