On the last note though, if RE4 started bringing the franchise in the wrong direction which I agree, then RE7 brought it back to something good, different once again, but good.
The only haters always seem to be the ones who "refuse" to play it because of reasons like "it's first person now, ew", or "story seems very different" etc. No valuable input at all basically.
Don't bash it until you try it.
I was very skeptical going into re7 and was pleasantly surprised. And I hadn't cared much for the series since the originals and maybe 4. And I'm not that huge a fan of 4.
I'm not saying First Person games are bad, just not my thing so it sounds like I'll be skipping another RE game indefinitely. Waiting for a deep sale in RE3 btw.
Luckily most fps games these days have options to disable things like head bob and make first person more comfortable. But I find the ways different aspects of a game can only be presented in first person helps the immersion personally. Can be something as simple as not being able to peek around the corner for the next possible threat using the camera for example. I guess each perspective has its own immersion factors.
What is the "True RE people wanted" anyway? Would Village be a true RE if it had OTS camera instead?
For example, if they did manage to create a photorealistic FPS Resident Evil game set in Raccoon city where I can be a civilian trying to escape the city...Hell yes.
But RE7 is not this, neither will RE8 be this.
It's a consensus that the best games of the series are RE1 and RE2.
Those games defined the series. Made it what it is.
What do true fans want? The same RE1/RE2 success but modernised.
RE7/RE8 goes in weird direction story wise, weird direction gameplay wise, and even the MC is some unlikeable bland ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ compared to Leon/Chris/Jill.
Capcom just doesn't seem to understand how to write a good story beyond RE3 & Raccoon city, they're milking the franchise that's all.
And no; you don't dictate what "real fans" want. You don't even dictate what a "real fan" is. Some people like classic tank-control RE's, some people like OTS RE's, some people like the new FPS RE style, some others like every RE style there is. None is better, none is best. Buy what you want, ignore what you don't.
Don't like Capcom's direction? Move on then! There are hundreds of indie games out there with the classic RE formula. Go check Puppet Combo, they make amazing horror games and they have at least one classic RE style game (tank controls and all!). I folloed many companies that I used to love, but then they went on directions that I did not find appealing. Guess what? I moved on to other companies that did what I liked. End of story.
We heard it the 100,000th time with RE4, RE5, RE6, RE7, RE2RE, RE3RE and now with a game that hasn't even shown its gameplay.
Get.Over.Yourself.
We already have a modernised RE2 (and I seriously prefer the original all day, but that's another story)... What else do those true fans you're talking about want, to be stuck revisiting the Arklay/Raccoon City incident with the same characters, the same T-Virus zombies, and Umbrella for eternity?
Well, some players (including me) are interested in new adventures, settings, characters, misteries and horrors to face. As long as it's Survival Horror and has the core elements of a RE experience it sounds like a good start to me. I've already experienced the Raccoon City outbreak like a dozen times.
And what's so weird about RE7 gameplay or so different from RE2 2019?
In both games you're in the middle of an outbreak trapped inside a series of spooky buildings.
In both you have to explore, backtrack, and manage limited resources.
In both you have to find fancy keys to unlock doors and solve some puzzles to gain access to new areas.
In both you have to plan your route and what items you'll carry with you or store.
Your goal in both is to find a way out and survive the nightmare, while shooting or avoiding the monsters that try to kill you.
In both you even have a stalker type enemy occasionaly chasing you.
They obviously have differences, because they don't have to be literally the same game, but clearly they aren't two games going in opposing directions at all.
I'm not ruling village out yet though first person has dulled my enthusiasm somewhat. I'm not exactly a purist either since I enjoyed the offshoot revelations. I think revelations offers the best RE multiplayer/coop experience to date. It provides a strong replayability factor as well.
RE7 is best game in all terms!
Nobody cares about your opinion. GO AWAY!

Yeah, I didn't like the molded...just blobs of varying sizes. Didn't like las plagas either because they just want to shove tentacles and worms down our throats. I prefer something with more gore.
At least 8 seems centered around werewolves and maybe even vampires so hopefully we will see more blood.
