Inferno has Auto Save?

Hi, i died on Nemeis because i idiot tried to pick up a First Aid Spray while he was pounding me now after i died there was the Option Auto Inferno.
What does that mean?
Btw i do a Inferno S Rank and i wanted to ask if i die can still get the S Rank?

It probably puts you back at your last save since theres no checkpoint

it makes an auto save like early on at one point yes.

after that, no auto saves. unsure on what monster said above, that might happen too but technically different from an auto save checkpoint system normally used.

I think the first and only auto save it does is right after you bust out of your apartment.
