I don't like the new Jill either, but her hostile attitude doesn't come across as feminist at all.
I´m the first to spot twisted 3rd wave feminist agendas inserting themselves in media, and i can assure, there is no such thing going on in this game, whoever thinks that seriously, needs to reconsider the posibility that their hatred towards feminism has taken them to straight up hate women who show any level of self assertion... Jill will learn through the game that she misjudges Carlos, just because he's an Umbrella pawn... In a way, its giving the reverse message that feminism nowadays tries to forcefully push, which is "all men, no matter from what background, circumstances, behaviour or way of thinking are part of some system of opression, and they must relinquish their will and submit blindly to whatever any woman asks of them"... Jill will be proven wrong to distrust Carlos just because he's an umbrella employee, like any feminist would be proven wrong if they decided to look beyond their morally corrupt ideology.
So whoever thinks they're injecting feminism into RE, stop being paranoid, it is clouding your judgement of what's what.
The only character that has ever behaved remotely like a feminist within the franchise was Moira Burton, from revelations 2, when she was a bratty, entitled idiot... After she went through the whole survivor experience, and made through thanks to a traditional old school guy like Evginy, she learns to value people beyond what tey have between their legs, and makes peace with her father.
All that being said, i don't love the new Jill, but not because some assumed feminism that doesnt even exist within the game, but the actual model change... I like consistency... So if they keep this model, for ETERNITY, and capcom promises to never change her again, then she might grow on me, but we all know they're gonna just give a bunch of money to the next shallow instragram model some horny japanese devs is creeping on... So... Not optimal.
Wait, so why am I being vilified for believing in the perfectly healthy mindset that men are men and women are women and that women being turned into men is neither progressive nor desirable.
Now she's just a moody man-women who knows how a radio works.
Everyone was wacky back then... Barry bordered utter incompetence "its really powerful, specially against living things!"... Not a good argument. Chris calls Wesker "pathetic" while laughing, and Wesker be like "uuhu... stahp it" ... All STARS members were incompetent morons if we judge by the old games standards. Wesker was wearing sunglasses before Capcom even thought about bringing him back as a BOW shtlord. So no, he wasnt originally covering his evil eyes, he was just a dumbass, who became a killable zombie in the Saturn version.
We've established that losing your hometown after your superior refuses to expose the corporation that did it is enough reason to make someone moody, when then she finds soldiers of said corporation "claiming" to be helping civilians, and the truth is... With Nikolai, she would have been completely right to be so uptight and edgy, but with Carlos, not, she learns through the game taht's she's mistaken about him, god forbid someone growing up from their prejudice, like Jill has towards anything and anyone with an Umbrella logo... Chris end up working for them, and he's so pissed about it in the Not a Hero DLC, but because there were plenty of good people within the company, among them the Ashfords before the twins (Alexia and Alfred) were born, They were the largest benefactors for umbrella, cause they wanted to discovers ways in which they could help humanity.
But i guess context never matters, she must be some smiley bimbo just because "Resident evil is dumb anyways" right?
it's got nothing to do with context, whether the story matter is serious or not is irrelevant, it's to do with the change in times. What was accepted and tolerated 20 years ago, like mini skirt jill, is not now and that's the problem. Too much wokeness has destroyed any resemblance of fun that we as a society indulged in. Now women are being turned into men as a form of 'progressiveness' and women who make a good career out of their beauty and sex appeal are being demonised.
Sadly the betas, cucks and soy induced (who don't even buy the games) are so rampant now that AAA companies are too scared to pander to the crowds that helped made their games a success in the first place in fear of twitter outrage mobs and npc media.
I get what you mean, you don't want reality in games, because games should be allowed to be creative, and not a 1 to 1 recreation of what we see in the real world, which is rather boring in general... And yes, most female soldiers look like ♥♥♥♥♥, that doesnt necessarily mean Jill has to look like one, we can agree on that, no problem, she's fictional after all.
But i think there is too much conspiranoia in this particular instance. I like more her old looks, and i mean Julia Voth, not because it was pretty or anything, but cause as imentioned, i like consistency within a franchise that keeps acknowledging all of the events that have taken place since the very first title, so having characters get surgery between games will never sit well with me either... But i don't think its because Capcom, a japanese company (did you know japanese are making a Greta Thumberg doll for the purposes you can imagine? They're utterly shameless, often for the worse, like the case im presenting).
Just because western AAA developers pander to NPCs for fear of being cancelled, doesnt mean ALL developers do... I think people are blowing this particular case out of proportion, this isnt the last of us, or zero horizon dawn, or uncharted, or Senua's sacrifice (they were proud of making "an ugly female", precisely to pander, as you say)... This is capcom, and i could swear i´ve provided evidence and context for it NOT being the case for this game. As i said, im the first to spot their nonsense. Jill is more than justified to act the way she does around Umbrella grunts.
And if they keep this face for eternity (which i dont love), i´d be fine as long as they don't change it in the next game. I personally would prefer their artists to make faces from scratch, like they did with Moira Burton, her face isnt based on anyone that exists, and she looks fine.
Also another side problem of getting these russian instagram models is, they dont speak english, so... They scan their faces, but the facial mocap is done by someone else who does speak english... So you get motion captures for faces that don't fit at all, and that's how you get Claire's weird faces when she talks in RE2R.
Again, you're right on what you're saying about AAA developers in general, but i don't see it in this particular instance (said that 3 times, not white knighting or defending sneaky pandering, i legit believe it).
As for the old outfits and what not... I would have sworn they were preorder bonus, and unlockables... Even if they arent... Mods! I plan to get the battlesuit from RE5 as a mod as soon as someone makes it, and hopefully a better face mod, the current "Julia Voth mod" face is still too... unfinished.
