HDR Broken since RE2. Option Greyed out if you use a second monitor.
So I recently got a HDR monitor. It works on Win10 connected via DisplayPort. All HDR games work as they should, except for RE2 and also the Demo of RE3.

I've looked on the forums and it seems that if the game detects you have a secondary display connected that does not support HDR, then the option will be greyed out even if you disable the second display. The only way to make it work is to physically unplug the other display, however on gaming laptops this is not something you can easily do and disabling the built in display via device manager doesn't do the trick. The game still detects the second screen.

This is a huge bummer for me because I was really looking forward to play the new RE3 in HDR.

I hope that Capcom addresses this issue, but seems really unlikely unless a lot of people report this bug.

Try setting your monitor layout to both screens (extemded) and set the external Monitor as Primary. That worked for me

Tried that but it didn't worked. I finally managed to get it working though it's jank, basically I have to go to device settings and "uninstall" my laptop monitor and then quickly open Re3 before the display driver reinstalls itself. It's a pain in the ass to get the timing right but it's the only way that I can play on HDR for now.

Not true. I have dual monitor setup - one with HDR and one without - HDR works in RE2R and RE3R just fine.

Is your HDR monitor showing as No1 or No2 on Nvidia control panel? Cause mine shows up as No2, and Laptop screen is always no1. When I uninstall it throught device manager, my hdr monitor becomes no1 and only then the game recognizes it.

Yeah that's why it works for you. Since I use a laptop, the built in screen is always no1, even if you set your 2nd monitor as primary display. I guess the game checks for HDR flags only on first monitor and not 2nd, and that's why it works when I uninstall my built in display from device manager. It's Jank, but it works for now. I doubt capcom will ever look into it though.

hdr has been a issue for me literally, either it's too bright or too dark to even play the game, i had to turn up the brightness of my tv because i had to play the game in a completely dark room to match the darkness of RE2/RE3

HDR is not the best I've seen, it looks really hazy at times. It was the same in RE2, but I find that it's still slightly better than SDR. Specially when there are explosions or really bright lights.
