The game is 12 years old. Its only a port from PS3.
Aside the fact that this is really a 2009 game. And the fact that in battle the SPELL option appears for characters that can cast spells when selecting their turn’s action
Look down at your keyboard. You should see six keys on one side labeled Q, W, A, S, Z, and X. These are the six keys you usually use to interact with this game. There are also several keys with tiny pictures of arrows on them, these are important too. Remember these keys for later, because you will be using them!
OUTSIDE OF COMBAT
You should be seeing a screen that shows six character portraits and a first person view.
Press the S key. A menu should come up with many options. One of them will say "spell."
Press the down arrow key twice so that "spell" is highlighted. Now press the Z key. You should be seeing one of your characters' names and lots of numbers.
You will notice on the screen that two keys are animated, Q and W. This means that you can press those keys to make something happen. In this case, they are used to switch your currently selected character.
Press Q or W until you are selecting a character that can cast spells, i.e. a character where some of the numbers on the screen are not 0. Since you are casting out of combat, you probably want to be selecting a priest or bishop at this time.
Use the arrow keys to highlight one of the numbers which is not 0, probably the one all the way on the lower left. Now press Z. Use the arrow keys to select a spell such as Healing Light (which is probably already highlighted). Now press Z again.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the character who needs healing. Now press Z again and you will heal them! Congratulations, you have cast a spell!
DURING COMBAT
Follow the exact same steps, for the most part. If a character is not able to cast a spell, then you will not see the "spell" option listed.
This game is nothing like the classic wizardry series, its more like the late Wizardry Online.
When you get into battle, any spell caster class in your party would have a "Spells" menu followed by a bunch of numbers which is the power or tier of magic you want to use. The spells and potions don't have jibberish names like in the previous wizardry games so that makes things alot easier.
I'm not really certain if it "Fizzles" like the old version did, but if you have the proper stats for spell casting you wouldn't have a problem using it in battle. INT is for mages, PIE is for healers.
Or going to "OPTIONS" on the "TITLE SCREEN" and looing at the "KEYBOARD/CONTROLLER SETTINGS" to learn the controls to find the "MENU" and ♥♥♥♥.
Invest in a brain with problem solving and more importantly: A working set of Eyeballs.
Enjoy that refund...go play some Gone Home, that may be more suitible in difficulty for you.
And which particular development in game design can we blame for the overwhelming number of unhelpful ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ replying to people asking for help?
