Wow, nothing like having a little patience.

It seems to be more of a case of "Wow, nothing like hiring actual UI/UX designers in 2020, to work on your commercial game."

Aside the fact that this is really a 2009 game. And the fact that in battle the SPELL option appears for characters that can cast spells when selecting their turn’s action

I suspect OP had a similar issue I have: I see the number of available spells, I can chose the level. I cannot chose target or spell.

You choose a target group and either it hits all of them if AoE or they choose their own target. Overall this feels pretty fair because the enemies also target randomly in RPGs and its always felt odd that you'll focus fire but the enemy never will. If theres 1 group it will even skip the selection. Anyway, if OP doesn't have the patience to figure that out on their own then the game really isn't for them to begin with.

HOW TO CAST SPELLS

Look down at your keyboard. You should see six keys on one side labeled Q, W, A, S, Z, and X. These are the six keys you usually use to interact with this game. There are also several keys with tiny pictures of arrows on them, these are important too. Remember these keys for later, because you will be using them!

OUTSIDE OF COMBAT

You should be seeing a screen that shows six character portraits and a first person view.

Press the S key. A menu should come up with many options. One of them will say "spell."

Press the down arrow key twice so that "spell" is highlighted. Now press the Z key. You should be seeing one of your characters' names and lots of numbers.

You will notice on the screen that two keys are animated, Q and W. This means that you can press those keys to make something happen. In this case, they are used to switch your currently selected character.

Press Q or W until you are selecting a character that can cast spells, i.e. a character where some of the numbers on the screen are not 0. Since you are casting out of combat, you probably want to be selecting a priest or bishop at this time.

Use the arrow keys to highlight one of the numbers which is not 0, probably the one all the way on the lower left. Now press Z. Use the arrow keys to select a spell such as Healing Light (which is probably already highlighted). Now press Z again.

Use the arrow keys to highlight the character who needs healing. Now press Z again and you will heal them! Congratulations, you have cast a spell!

DURING COMBAT

Follow the exact same steps, for the most part. If a character is not able to cast a spell, then you will not see the "spell" option listed.

This game is nothing like the classic wizardry series, its more like the late Wizardry Online.

When you get into battle, any spell caster class in your party would have a "Spells" menu followed by a bunch of numbers which is the power or tier of magic you want to use. The spells and potions don't have jibberish names like in the previous wizardry games so that makes things alot easier.

I'm not really certain if it "Fizzles" like the old version did, but if you have the proper stats for spell casting you wouldn't have a problem using it in battle. INT is for mages, PIE is for healers.

Important: You have to chose the spell level AND the spell with your keyboard - NOT with your mouse. (It is 2020. Most PC these days come with a mouse ...)

and this is the result of years of in-your-face tutorials and handholding in modern games...a moron who has no paitience and can't find a button labeled "SPELL" for thier "MAGE/PRIEST/BISHOP" during combat or in the "MENU" by pressing the "Y BUTTON" (xbox controler).

Or going to "OPTIONS" on the "TITLE SCREEN" and looing at the "KEYBOARD/CONTROLLER SETTINGS" to learn the controls to find the "MENU" and ♥♥♥♥.

Invest in a brain with problem solving and more importantly: A working set of Eyeballs.

Enjoy that refund...go play some Gone Home, that may be more suitible in difficulty for you.

And which particular development in game design can we blame for the overwhelming number of unhelpful ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ replying to people asking for help?
