Mergle?!
Everything was going so great, then this ugle slim/sulfur mosnter boss shows up and recks me, HARD! should i already be into gunpowder by now or is there a simpler way to defeat it?

If you're talking about the day 5 boss, here's what I do with him: I try to have around six upgraded spearman engage him out of the range of my towers. While getting there you might lose a few, so send all but 1-2 at him in a close grouping. You might get all of them hit, but the chances are far worse if they move in piecemeal.

It's hard to gauge the distance, but I try to stop him about half a screen ahead of the climbable rock formation, while zoomed out. This is important, because one of his grenades can massacre your ranged units atop a tower...as you've likely seen. You can also build towers to the left of that rock formation. By this point, I probably don't have the sulfur for more than a few musketeers, even on easy, but every bit of extra damage counts.

The guy's ranged attack is powerful, and that splash radius is huge, but it has also trouble hitting enemies at his feet. Use four of the spearmen in front of him, to both stop his advance and take care of the guys he spawns. Use the remaining two to run behind him, and give them an attack order. Ideally, the ones with the best armor rating will be in front of him, and ones with a bonus to damage are behind him.

Meanwhile, your ranged units should just pelt the everliving snot out of him. Move them closer if you have to. With luck, you may even be able to sneak in a healer or two with the group of spearmen, and keep them alive longer. If the melee charge worked, he'll die eventually. If it failed, well...reload or start over, I guess.

Yup that boss is a pain with its aoe lobbing bullets. Both times that i got to the boss i was able to build the stone wall to so i could build above the ground lvl, then i'd build three archer towers and upgrade them to lvl 2 (lvl 3 has the same hp as lvl 2). Then I'd keep my archers off the towers and behind the furtherest one, so the aoe bullets are more likey to hit the towers, keeping the archers just out of range of the aoe. I would also build the spike walls on the, which do a decent job of kill any of the bosses minions before being destroyed.

I just threw a bunch of spearment at him he can't hit them himself.

You can with enough firepower from above, though it's probably best if you don't. Killing Mogha will spawn a horde of things from its corpse that move quickly and tend to murder everything in their path. It's just not worth it.

Sacrifice one (or more) of your people, preferably one(s) with -20% or -40% movement speed. Send them east of the town as soon as you get the message, so no others are at risk. I try to have 1-2 of them already working in that area (say, chopping the eastern trees, and I pull them back to the village at night.)

Doesn't it explode on death, killing all your spearmen?

I found another way. While his fire can't really be baited with a unit on the ground (due to the artillery AoE eventually hitting), it can work on a stone wall. What I do is build 2 adjacent walls, with a couple lvl 3 towers on the left of the wall and have a single fast unit for bait on the right side. The artillery doesn't collide with the wall so all you have to do is dodge direct hits from the projectiles, while your archers kill everything. Takes a while but you don't lose anything!

All i did was take my archers off the wall put them on the ground and manually baited out his shots and then moved away, kite and repeat until he is dead.

just build a stone block past the boss spawn then put 6ish 100%+ dam archers that will kill him.
The reason for this is the boss cant turn so hes an easy kill. found this out by accident
(will get patched in the future)

9-12 fire tower crossbows and have at least 6 spearmen suicide charge (healer will most likely die before it is useful so keep it with the crossbows

My first attempt ended in failure because he was my first actual ranged enemy...1 shot and practically all my muskets died xD
2nd try, got him distracted with towers and simply made sure the muskets were below those towers, so the towers get hit, or a short shot hits near the tower, but men still good.
wasn't happy the 1st time because I never expected it to be able to 1shot a large group >_>
Granted, I am mostly keeping the 100% damage but 50% less hp guys, the dps on em with pots added is nice :3

Lol litterly just faced him, i had 12 crossbowmen on 3 lv.3 toweres on 3 stone walls, and had 4 teir 2 spearmen fully buffed with armor and health potions, no buildings destroyed, just lost my whole army

That moment when you think your very hard hitting guys (100% damage boost) are safe, and a fcking stone throw just so happens to randomly land on em...
