As impostor you need to be prepared for people doing this. You should learn how to convincingly fake tasks and also sabotage the comms if you want to hide the progress bar. You can also sabotage reactor or O2 to get people to scatter. In addition, people only group up when all the tasks are nearly done. If that happens, it means you've taken too long. You need to start killing people early on so that they won't be able to group too soon. If they are still grouping, you need to be convincing in meetings to get crewmates voted out.
