In theory the high guard exists to block divekicks, making up for the fact that it gets beaten by mid and low during simultaneous lunges. In practice, it's actually pretty trivial to bypass a high guard with a divekick unless you attempt to do so from very far away.
That leaves the main deterrent for divekick being when your opponent actively anicipates it (risky sword throwing or running back and lunging as you land), usually because you've been repeatedly punishing them for assuming you're going to engage in the stance-switch/lunge dance. Even at that point it's a gamble for them because you can just as easily mix it up with rolls, lunges and throws to keep them guessing.
tl;dr, guy has a point. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's broken but it's definitely one of the stronger options.
My main issue is this; in a a fencing game, i would like to actually fence my opponent, rather then just dive kick each other over and over again. If you think dive kick is ok, i suggest you look at other fighting games and see how much this one move is overused. In many games, (third strike as an example) if a character has the dive kick ability, it becomes a core strat for winning tournys and the like.
The deadangle attack is way faster then any other move in the game, and often (due to lag perhaps) comes off faster then the split sec it takes, to take a step back. And yes you can turn it off in offline mode, but that does not help when everyone else online has it enabled.
So yea thats it, I love this game, but the dive kick just seems like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ direction to go with it, and im sure as the game matures, we will be seeing alot more of it.
Perhaps if you were only able to dive kick when you were unarmed( or any other nerf) that might help to solve this problem. But in its current state, its a complelty viable option to dive kick then just keep on running, you really dont need to fence at all if you dont want to. The counters for dive kick, high stance and sword throwing, really dont do much to discourge overuse. In fact the guy i fought was just trying to bait me into throwing my sword, so he could just change direction mid air, avoid then go around me.
yes but if you saw my top post, i would prefer the game not devolve to dive kick warfare.
This game is largely about the sword fighting but you have to give it credit for not restricting itself to that formula. The game would be far less interesting without the dive kick, and rolling jump manoeuvres that I have seen so many times.
TL;DR: Dive kicks are awesome and you shouldn't complain just because you get outplayed.
If you're going to tell someone to get on your level then you should probably start playing.

It is a little annoying when people spam it but it does serve a purpose when kicking someone off the level.
