Edit: But you know, the violet petals actually survive the full length burn. I thought that was the catch, mixing two powders would lead to that colour anyway :P
Also, yes, just hold the spoon in the flames gradually until they change. If you're unsure, just put the spoon down and if you've done it right it will say 'Dried Petals' when you hover your mouse over it. If you haven't done it enough yet, it will just say 'Petals' or somesuch. Good luck :D
