Sound effects ripoff/ reference?!

I played the first two chapters so far and am surprised that Thief Gold's Soundtrack got used there. (Thief Gold is a classic 1998 stealth game)

At first, you can hear the music that plays when the machine attacks Felix: Then, it's the "scare chord" when you find him in the dream world.
It's exactly the same sound, isn't it?
I can't see why another game's soundtrack is used, also without credit... is there some link between the games?

I guess it's a just a stock sound. You stumble upon sound effects you know from other games or movies quite often.

definitely stock sounds. i hear stuff like this all the time. just depends on what game you played the most, that you recognize the noises from. the original starcraft game is loaded with stock sounds, and i hear them just about everywhere!
