You and your wife move to a new apartment and while settling in you find a mysterious half burned note saying that there is something under one of the floorboards.You find an electric circuit that's connected to a survaillance camera above your bed. Outraged you go down to the receptionist, and break into his living quarters.
-Ch. 2
After rummaging through the landlord's living area, you soon find an eerie elevator which leads to an underground bunker in which lies the dream machine, alongside a survaillance room in which there is a device that admissions sleeping gas used to experiment on the residents.
You observe the machine knocking out the landlord, Morton, and soon after use special headwear on him to access his dreams.
Dream realm:
The dream world is a collection of abstract paths and portals, leading to equally abstract landmarks. You find three statues, one representing Mr. Mortons father, one of his grandfather and the last of his greatgrandfather.
They all tell you some insight on their familly's history and the development of the machine.
After talking to them and finding your way to Morton, you see the machine, which in the dream realm portrays itself as black tentacles. It mortally wounds him and and leaves you to spend his last moments with him. He dies informing you that it's vital for you to not only destroy the machine, but also it's dream realm counterparts living inside the resident's dreams.
-Ch 3.
Having left the dream world you find your wife unconciouss on the floor of your appartment room, you find no other option but to enter her dreams. In her dream you find to be one among many other versions of you, working as sailors on a luxury ship. You're quickly assigned a job as the bartenders assistant before being promoted to a new rank and being given the task of finding out what happened to Victor (some number).
After a lot of investigation, you unveil the conspiracy of the missing crew members, and are invited to the bridge of the ship to discuss things with the captain( Your wife). You talk to her for a bit, before realising that she is possesed by the machine and you get thrown down a hatch, into a pit of dead, decaying Victors.Victor concocts a poisonous coctail which kills off the tentacles and accommodates with his wife.
-Ch 4.
Now you are back in the real world, and get to meet some of the new residents.
The resident in whose dreams you'll be entering next, is an old lady called Eddie.
She has invited a couple of old friends over for a game of cards and you use that to your advantage. While she is worrylessly chatting with her friends, you use the gas admission to knock them unconciouss and enter Eddy's dreams.
In her dreams you find crumbling remains of what used to be a house in a surreal place sharing simmilarities with outer space. You use old photographs of her and her family to recombine the rooms in a certain order, and uncover more and more about Eddie's upbringing, her religious zealot of a mother and her lover.
Soon after you find the third tentacle and kill it off aswell.
-Ch 5.
Chapter two is divided into 2 main segments:Martin's dream, a sci fi inspired simulation like matrix where, aside from a couple futuristic interactables, you are surrounded by nothing.
The second segment is Selma Theed's dream in which you are placed in the total opposite setting of Martins dream, a fairytale world filled with talking animals, mushroom houses, creepy folklore etc etc.
In Selma's dream you trail the organ thief, responsible for stealing organs from practically the entire village. You later find out that the organ thief is Martin, who is possesed by the machine and is stealing organs in order to create a host for the machine to enter the real world.
I'm not going to go into detail because the chapter really is massive and you should definately replay it if you can, but long story short, their dreams are intertwined, you find a gun with which you can change size in Martin's dream and carry it over to Selma's. In a rundown hut you find a vampire in a state of hibernation, almost too weak to even speak. You let him know that the organ thief is coming for him and devise a plan with him.
You shrink up and enter the vampire's esophagus and make your way to his stomach.
When the organ thief comes he cuts the vampires stomach out with you inside and carries it to the machine's ''headquarters''. As he places the stomach into the creature intended to be the host, you use the gun to make yourself larger and destroy it. With the host and the tentacle being destroyed you leave the dream failling to realise why the machine is still active when it hit's you, your wife is pregnant.
