Stuck on Through the Wringer - cannot abandon

I cannot abandon this mission, quit game, quit to desktop, no matter what I do the game throws me back at the start of the mission.

Is there a way to continue with the game and do this mission later?

In the main menu there should be a quit mission option.

click esc and left in the menu the option to abandon the mission

MIssion cannot be abandoned once it has started. There are more missions like this. In the end I had to complete the mission to be able to continue with the game.

Shoddy programming from the developers this particular bit.

A way around this is:
1) manually copy+save your save game files regularly (mine are in D:\Games\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\c6b64836-af52-4223-95c3-cee72df700d9)
You need to know your FC5 New Dawn directory, mine just happens to be "c6b64836-af52-4223-95c3-cee72df700d9"
2) close the game
3) disconnect the internet on your PC (eg disable your WiFi and /or ethernet adapter, pull the cable out the back etc)
4) copy the saved save game files over the latest save files
5) restart the game with the internet off
6) "continue" will now start you at whichever point you have chosen
7) when you re-enable the internet the game will tell ask you to choose to continue from your local saved game files or from the "cloud". Choose "local".
