I use keyboard / mouse so I can't help any further then that
You need to bring up Big Picture mode, select the game and then go to Manage Game, Controller Options and set "Use Steam Configuration for Non-Steam Controllers" to Forced Off.
That should allow the game to use it's native support for PS4 Controllers so you'll get the correct icons and button mapping.
I use a wired Xbox One controller straight in and my girlfriend uses a Nintendo Switch controller playing the game with x360ce_x64; we both are having issues with reversing on vehicles, descending ropes, and helicopter. It's been almost a year since this was last posted. Can we get any response from the developers please?
you're a genius
Thanks for reaching out and for sharing that this solution worked for you!

Sorry to hear that this doesn't work for you with the dualsense.
For clarity, can I check exactly what happens now?
Many thanks,

Hey Ubisoft Loved the Far Cry series
however Im having problems with FCND. with the descent/Reverse button applied all the fixes shown here in this thread. help please?
Could you please try the following steps:
1. Open Big Picture mode
2. Go to Library
3. Click Far Cry New Dawn
4. Click Manage Game
5. Click Controller Settings.
6. Turn controller application to forced off
7. Start up Far Cry New Dawn.
If you find the above does not help, please try these steps:
1. Open Steam
2. Go to Settings > Controller > General controller settings
3. Turn off all controllers.
4. Close Steam, launch Far Cry New Dawn from Ubisoft Connect.
Should you need further support, please let me know. Thank you.
I'm using a Steam Deck.
I can disable Steam Input from the game properties, but this does not fix the problem. I cannot find an equivalent to the second step you describe above.
