Requires 3rd-Party Account: Ubisoft Account (Supports Linking to Steam Account)
Can someone explain this to me? Do you just need to create an account or are they selling the game here and expect you to download a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ service so you can play the game there? I don't understand the point of this "requirement"

In reality, Steam is the 3rd party account. All ubisoft games now require Uplay to launch, no matter where you buy it. But with Steam it integrates seamlessly, if you don't already have Uplay you'll be prompted to set up an account and from then on it runs mostly invisibly in the background.

It's a sad truth that these days every publisher wants a piece of what Steam created, and are doing their own version of it - some better than others. The exact same thing now is happening in other entertainment mediums, like with Netflix.

I suppose ubi could turn around and say no more games for steam but they choose to sell on steam unlike EA/origin

Nothing more than about money.

Well sadly that's the direction it's headed... Ubi already decided to make Division 2 a Uplay exclusive, and Deep Silver pulled Metro Exodus off Steam to give the Epic store exclusive rights. Even some indie devs have decided to show their loyalty to the company that allowed them to prosper, buy skipping over Steam and going to Epic. (Shame on you, Super Giant Games.)

Steam isn't without blame, of course... They've been coasting on gamer loyalty and a near monopoly for so long that they need to adapt fast or be just a hub for indie devs, early access devs, and forums.

We're on the edge of another shift in how we get our games, and my big fear is that once all these companies realize they can't beat Steam at their own game, they'll switch to something entirely different like subscriptions or games as a service, like a lot of business software devs are doing now. Like how you can't just buy the Microsoft Office suite any more... You subscribe to it, for $100/year.

Thanks for all the replies mates, guess I'll give it a pass then. It's a shame really. On the plus side I guess they just save me money, I'll just clear the backlog.

pretty weak excuse in 2019... I got the game barely felt like finishing far cry 5, and im having way more fun in New Dawn..

You know what, never mind, you dont need fun with that kind of thinking...

There's no need to pass up a good game just because of the need to create a Uplay account.

Uplay works absolutely fine alongside Steam. I've been using it for many years.

I get it, though... it's a show-stopper for some. I won't buy games on Epic or Origins for similar reasons. But you're right that the Uplay launcher is seamless, I don't even notice it so it doesn't bother me. (Uplay has actually gotten pretty good over the years.)

From what I've seen on a gameplay video I think they just want that Uplay stuff so they can get money from microtransactions in Single Player games (Assassin's Creed Origins and this, others I didn't check). Sorry, I mean no offense but I don't like supporting these kinds of practices so I stand by my statement.

so do not buy Ubi games none of us care .. Uplay has worked fine here for me for years ..
even only buy my Ubi games direct from Ubisoft or other digital partners ..since all steam adds is another layer of DRM ..plus i get em cheaper then what steam sells em for most of the time . to each his own ..

Uplay has no more to do with microtransactions than Steam does, really... Sure the option is there for games that have mtx but that's not what the launcher is for. Think of it more like EA's Origins or Blizzard's Battle.net, with the major (positive) difference being that Uplay actually integrates transparently with Steam.

LOL steam has many more Microtransactions going on daily then Uplay does if ya really think about it

so if thats your reason for skipping good games i guess you should not use steam either
