How do you open a supply drop?
Doesn't seem to be any sort of prompt on the first one I found.

Is the flare attached to it still burning? Normally you come up to one and hold E, unless it's already been looted by the enemies.

The flare faded while I was dealing with a scavenger. Guess it timed out. Alright, I'll be quicker next time. Thanks.

It is a mystery. The second one opened normally, but I didn't dawdle getting to it.

The enemies will get to it before you, and steal everything in it, unless you get there first and kill them before they get anything from it.
Notice sometimes they will already be there, and you kill them, and you only get 1 or 2 things from it? Or sometimes you get there 1st and get 5-6 things out of it?

Get the lock pick skill if you haven't yet, opens those supply drops much quicker

The plane always drops it close to you, once you hear the plane you'll make it there before the enemies do or arrive same time. At least for me.

Sure, IF you dont have a King Bear attacking you, or you didnt see where it dropped, or you dont have a vehicle to get there 1st.
I was just explaining to the OP (who is NOT you) why he may be missing loot or not getting the drop box in the 1st place, since he doesnt seem to have the grasp of the drop boxes yet.

Haha ok fair enough, ive had my fair share of interruptions.

Can still make it on foot though, next time you hear the plane look out for it because it drops the supply box near you, within a 100m radius from the sky. It takes a while to come down so if you see it early enough can run it easily. You hear the plane much earlier before it drops.
