Highwayman Kabob -glitch or very crappy/misleading explanation?
I've killed multiple highwaymen with a sorta-bayonet. Since the weapons, AFAIK, don't have REAL bayonets, I'm assuming any weap with a sharp pointy thing would count as having a bayonet. I've run up and stabbed at least 5 fallen enemy with a pointy piece of metal on my weapon, and I have ZERO credits for the 'highwayman kabab' achievement. Is it a specific weapon only that increments the kills? UPDATE: Since melee and takedown are the same key, my workaround was to run up and start hitting the melee key when I was at least 10 feet away, then when I was in range, it would bayonet instead of prompting for takedown. I used the shotgun/bayonet combo.
Thanks to those who responded!

I've not completed that challenge yet, but I've increased the counter two or three times by accident, using the third-tier shotgun with a bayonet - probably not an ideal weapon, since it tends to one-shot them, and hence makes it harder to have them damaged before the enstabbening.

OK, thanks. So because they created the game for console, and takedown is the same key combo as melee, I guess I have to shoot them and run up or something. At least I know what to try now. I've bayonetted MANY but I guess I haven't done it right yet.
UPDATE: I have to start trying to bayonet them about 10 feet out. Any closer and it turns into a takedown. Yeah, I know it's weird, but obviously this game was created by people w/o combat experience. Thanks again for the tip.

to be fair, I think the description does actually mention they have to be at low health.

Yep, key is "finishers" You'll know it when you see it - very brutal fatality animation using the bayonet.

OK, because I am The Most Helpful Guy on the Internet I actually just went and did this challenge, and I got observations:

1. the enemies ABSOLUTELY have to both be standing upright, AND be injured. If they've just climbed to their feet - after being e.g. knocked over by an explosion (Hurk I am looking at you) - there seems to be a large pause before the bayonet seems to work. It might also be that their health has to be lower than a certain point before it works (I'm guessing under half health).

1a. If they're mounted on a bike or whatever - or in the process of climbing off that bike - it won't work.

2. The bayoneting animation consists of two stabs (at least with the bayoneted shotgun I'm using) - one in the chest, followed by one in the throat. It's VERY obvious. If you see yourself stabbing them with a knife, or just jabbing with the gun a single time, that's just a regular takedown/melee attack, even if they die.

3. I think only standard Highwaymen are valid targets - those guys who are looting corpses (the ones with the coyote(?) icons) don't seem to count, even if you do the bayonet animation (see #2) - and I suspect that other special enemies won't either.

I mean, all the finishers and takedowns are brutal, but yeah. You stick them in the chest and neck, turn the bayonet, and pull it out. There's no mistaking it for anything else.

DUDE! Believe it or not I'm going through the game again, a bit more than a year after I asked this question, and I had to come back and read your response again lol. Between your comment and my comment about having to melee early, I got my first bayonet kill this time around. Thanks !

awesome! I'm helping!

I think I was wrong about #3, those scavenger-type Highwaymen definitely counted towards the Buzzkill achievement (killing 10 brawlers with a saw launcher), because that's how I unlocked that one* - so they probably count for bayonet finishers too

* as far as I can tell they count as 'brawlers' because they are only armed with a melee weapon - but they don't have the usual riot shield, making them an easier kill than other brawlers (if they don't get a chance to use their smoke grenade & run, anyway)

COOL! If I was smart I'd save these posts, for the next time around but then since I'm NOT smart I'd forget that I saved them and I'd have to come here again anyway soo.. lol Thanks again!

Great post dude. I have many many hours in this game, not sure how many but I think well more than 500+, and every time I want to do the pokie pokie challenge I have to refresh my memory on it. I'm going to do something intelligent this time and save your post to a text file in my "HUH?" gaming folder.
