Enemies repair alarms?
I've been having a very difficult time beating outposts, as it seems that even if I take out all the alarms, the enemy will repair them and it turns into an endless fight. Am I crazy? When I knock out a green light ("all clear") alarm, the light turns off. Then a minute or two later, there will be a lull in the fighting, I'll look up and see the light has turned red ("alert! alert!"). This is happening in a two star outpost on Hard♥♥♥♥♥difficulty.

I like the high difficulty, but it feels like I don't have sufficient health or firepower to kill the enemy fast enough; no matter how well I play I eventually get overwhelmed. In particular, if I play cautiously (and I pretty much have to), the enemy continues to respawn because of the alarms.

Not looking for tactical advice here - I want to confirm what's up with the alarms and whether this is intended play.

If there are multiple alarms you need to get all before you're spotted

Ohh, so smashing them after they're red does nothing? Informative, thank you.

If the camp has 3 alarm towers you'd need to smash/shoot/disable all three before you're detected, long and short if one tower is ok the enemy can radio for back up.

SNIPE EM ..YOU CAN SHOOT THE ALARM BOXES .. just do not get detected doing so .. helps to have a sniper rifle on ya at all times ...

i try to circle a base and shoot out the alarms first plus scope out were the bad guys are and learn their paths ..do not shoot the box when an enemy is near it ..and you should be able to disable all alarms for every outpost ..before you move in on it

I always shoot the alarms so they can not be repaired. Problem solved.

Some alarms are tucked away in buildings so you need to get in there too.

Well, that's the thing. I was going around smashing them with a 60 pound pipe wrench and yet they'd be repaired moments later. Made me wonder if this is how it's supposed to be. Guess so.

You can also send in the Dog or Boar and they will kill the enemies even if you aren't detected and it won't set off the alarms

works best with boar cause it has a skill where it gets back up on its own after unlocking Rank 2 of it

Another useful tactic to try for alarms when several enemies are hanging close to a box and would notice the shot , is to toss in some bait and have a wild animal distract them so their own shooting covers the sound.

Level 2 and 3 outpost enemies seem to notice broken boxes quite quickly regardless, so it's best to be quick on destroying all of them.

Just to be clear, a smashed alarm cannot be repaired by an NPC so it cannot be triggered after disabling. Once broken, they remain broken.

If the alarms go off after disabling one. it means at least one other alarm at a different location was still active and an NPC triggered that after you were detected. Once one alarm is activated, they all glow red - even the ones that have been broken. It's just a visual indicator that reinforcements are on the way.

You are an informative person. Thanks for the clarification :d4_wink:

I'm doing a special challenge where I use only bow's, clubs, fists and of course my companion. Hardest difficulty and highest level outposts.

A few tips:
Instead of destroying the alarms from a distance, sneak up to them an set trap on them. At a worst case scenario I'd only get 2/3 alarms this way before being spotted. But that's a 2/3's chance that a bad guy will choose to trigger the trapped alarm-which explodes killing them and doesn't trigger the alarm.

As soon as I'm spotted try to destroy the remaining alarms. This can be easily done by simply throwing a proximity mine in the general direction of the alarm. When bad guys go to trigger said alarm, they'll explode, destroying the alarm.

Certain guns for hire can almost take out an entire base by themselves, remember to upgrade them. The old sniper lady, Hurk, and The Boar I've found to be the most effective. Gina is good to if you' like to flank the enemy. she's great for a distraction and will get everyone to focus on her.

As for the alarms actually regenerated after they're destroyed if you stay in the area they shouldn't respawn. Never had that trouble.

Good info, thanks.

You sound like you want a real challenge ... have you tried turning off the UI? That's how I play, it's part of why I'm struggling so much with this :d4_smile:

Intriguing, gave it a shot and it's not bad. I'll probably leave everything off except ammo and health since I know how I'm going to feel-health wise and Id know how many arrows I have left. But I gave it a shot with everything off and did a level 3 outpost. Falls End.

Didn't struggle, I realize there's another tip. If you have double jump unlocked, I double jump all over the battle field. I'll be on the top of a building shooting at people, then jump quickly to another building and then to another, and then crouch down. Some bad guys will see me, others will walk in the direction I used to be. I'll turn on wrath and punch a guys lights out, or the one that makes it harder to see to snap a guys neck. Kind of just picking the bad guys apart instead of taking on the whole force.

I enjoy attempting the outposts using only stealth and double jump drop kills ~ extremely satisfying.
