You might want to check out Tell Me Why - another game from Don't Nod (who made LIS1 and 2). It's the story of a pair of twenty-something twins from a small town, who've been separated for years after one was arrested for killing their (mentally unstable) mother in self-defense after coming out to her as trans. They're reuniting and returning to their childhood home in order to prepare it for sale, and quickly discover that their childhood twin-telepathy still works (or works again). But revisiting the past brings up buried memories, and may uncover unexpected secrets about their mother, and about their past.

Flowers VN series. It`s four games that go by seasons of one school year in all-girls christian prep school in Japan.
There are no supernatural powers but there is mystery-horror theme going through all the games with deductive puzzle elements. Puzzles are often really hard though without reading a guide and lead to abrupt bad endings with wrong answers.
There are multiple endings but you can tell if you are on main path or alternate route by the circle with flower in right side of text. It flashes green for main route choices and yellow for alternate route choices (not available for deductive puzzles).
What this game has though are really good characters with great character development over the series and lot of them struggle with dark past issues like Alex Chen in LiS TC.
Things are often not what they try to show to other people around them. Just be prepared to get punched into gut few times.

Twin Mirror ... anther game by Dontnod, where the main character goes back to home town to find out what happened to his brother.

Gris - side scrolling no fail about grief

Lamplight City - Modern style point and click in a fictional steampunk London where the main character in the intro sees his partner killed and he loses his job at the force, taking side jobs where he can, hears his dead partner conversing with him aaaannnnnddddd also is addicted to this potent drug that would probably be super illegal today. It's possible to have a sad ending but if you pay attention getting the happy ending is pretty easy to do.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - two brothers where you control both with each analog stick at once. One ending. Annnnddd it's a gutpunch to the feels.

I recommend Night in the Woods. Granted, it feels more similar to the original Life is Strange, but it has a great atmosphere, music, and plot, lovable characters, a believable setting delves into some important topics, and it's an incredible game overall.

Actually, there is really nothing like the lis series. Especially the early games. Those early games are decently remastered now. Go play them. After that, there isn't much. Beyond mentioned above is pretty good, but not the same.

I think Square Enix tried to do a sequel with TC, but really didn't understand what made those early games so special. Or perhaps it is simply a matter of having a different script writer. Finally, without a good writer, there is no game, in my opinion. Too bad writers get zero recognition. It really isn't about Deck 9, or Dontnod, or Square Enix. It is about writers.

Go read a novel.

Dreamfall - there's 3 games all together if you're okay playing the first one from 1997 with horrible graphics, you can get to the 2nd and the masterpiece that is dreamfall chapters

Unironically, I'm on the opinion that True Colors would have benefitted a lot if it set closer to the game design of Night in the Woods. There's quite a few elements that felt very similar but never reached the same depth.

There aren't many games in the same vein, I'd say the most similar are Beyond Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human. There are others that are much less related but still play with your emotions, like Telltale games or Persona games.

This looks promising. Not sure about forwarding time for 27 years into some middle-aged people though. Would have probably been better to keep it in the vein of Stranger Things.
Anyway one to keep an eye on.
