I've been waiting for HDR fix for so long I don't feel like playing anymore
And what do I get here? pick between HDR or RTX, you've got to be kidding me...

Sure I know the RTX makes almost no difference, I tried I couldn't tell any difference, they didn't even bother to put reflection on her glasses, the perfect place to use a gimmick, shows how much they care I guess.

The HDR now that it's finally partly working, is not really working, it just makes the entire game brighter, which is not how HDR is supposed to work. It looks EXACTLY THE SAME as SDR with maximum brightness (in the screen). A game with real HDR implementation will have calibration sliders for roll-off brightness in nits, and standard brightness in nits, here you get two sliders for "brightness" and "contrast" with no scale, this is obviously just fake HDR. There is also massive banding artifact, which means the game is limited to 8-bit output, what a joke.

I know a game like this is not about graphics, but you're using UE, things like RTX and HDR are basically built-in, all you had to do is enable it, and somehow you still mess it up.

I also thought the shadows look really strange, your own shadow is extremely sharp but everything else have soft shadows, again you're using UE, this should just work by default how could this have happened?

Please make a support ticket about your experience with the game on Square Enix. For reference here is mine:

Latest patch: HDR does not work on DX12 version of the game

Description:
Issues Fixed HDR enabled (DX11 only)

The DX12 version of the game supports RTX raytracing, but DX11 version does not. However, HDR being fixed on DX11 only means we must choose between HDR (with DX11) or RTX (with DX12), but not both. Both features HDR and RTX should have been working from the start, but here we are a month later and needing to choose one feature or the other.

I am yet to play this game and still refuse to play it until this is fixed. I am also highly considering refunding the ultimate edition at this point-- I've never felt so disrespected and forgotten about after purchasing a new game at premium price.

Please fix HDR on the DX12 version so we can enjoy the game as intended.

I haven't even tried playing yet, but if HDR is not functioning properly even in DX11 as you say, you should write some about that in the support ticket too.

And why would I do that? This is not an issue most people would even recognize as most people don't even know what HDR is.

The game works the way it does because it was made that way, they won't fix it and they can't fix it without major reworks, the luminance values used in-game are not physically based, they're not going to go back and redo every single texture every single light source because of one support ticket.

I will agree that I really don't like that you can no longer choose having both HDR and raytracing, as I had no issues beforehand with getting both to work.

Believe it or not, Alex's glasses are raytraced, it is just extremely subtle. In fact, this is one of the only things raytraced in the game.

This game is not globally illuminated, so most of the outside is not raytraced, only primarily indoors, and with only certain light sources and certain shadows. There are a few examples outside, such as the lamp that Ryan uses near the mine, but there isn't that much raytracing within the game. Some parts of glass are also raytraced.

But I also don't like that you have to sacrifice some graphical fidelity with using the HDR as well with directx11 with certain effects in game. This just doesn't make sense to me either.

I tried, it's not, it doesn't reflect the correct things it's just a reflection texture, or maybe it's also not working as intended.

So you just come here to ♥♥♥♥♥ about it and do nothing? Why even post here if you're not trying to demand a fix? We paid for a broken product..

Do you think the console versions have fake HDR too? If not then why wouldn't this be able to be fixed?

Yes they use the same assets obviously they have the same problem.
I'm not wasting any time because the devs don't care, 90% of the people don't have HDR and the 10% that do, 95% won't recognize this as a problem.

Okay fair enough. I could tell there's very little interest in this game on PC lately anyways with how almost no one noticed today's patch released days late with no info from the devs. Gotta love being on the most capable platform yet still having basic game functions be neglected. I guess refund is my best bet then.

The game only uses RT shadows by default. You can enable RT reflections via ini tweaks and also enable TAAU same way but that's about it. Will look into HDR if it can be forced on the DX12 version but UE4's HDR only works properly on dx11 for most games (except for gears 5). All other games look just wrong on dx12 HDR.

Good info here, thanks! Just found the RT reflection ini tweak on pcgamingwiki. It says "Does not apply to transparent surfaces eg. windows" but I'll definitely try it out later if I re-buy the game

so does dx11 not support rtx? if hdr doesn't work on dx12, could they not just add the raytracing features to dx11?

I definitely think the ray tracing makes a difference but the lack of communication has been very disappointing. Almost a month with broken hdr, patch delayed several days past the given time(which was already after the console patches), and then doesn’t even work for the rtx build.

Loved the game but damn it came in hot.

Would be nice if devs could give short statement if we will get ray tracing AND HDR or not. Just to know if it’s worth waiting…

Devs??
They've abandoned the game.

It would appear so. They have decided that everything is working perfectly and they have dropped any support for the game. Why should I report any bugs to them on Reddit if they don't care?

Why are you saying nonsensical things?
THere is no way to claim they've abandoned the game.
LOL wut.
