Thoughts on Wavelengths DLC?
I might just be in a bad mood but I couldn't finish it, didn't really find it interesting.
How about you guys? What did you think? I'm genuinely asking :)

A boring and underwhelming chore.
LiS was a one hit wonder and this was the final nail in the coffin..
And for the record, i played it on PS4

I already commented but just to make sure there's some positivity on this page, I think this DLC is amazing. It's very fun and emotional. Steph is as charming as ever and seeing her go through a personal arc while living in Haven Springs for a year is really compelling. It does a great job at setting up her mental state going into True Colors. It's got the same artistic feel and flow of any other entry in the series and I love just existing in this space. 10/10

It's a mixed bag.

Essentially it's four days in the life of Steph at different points in her year in Haven running the radio station/record store with a small 'epilogue' of Alex's arrival in the first chapter of the main game.

As a bit of character exploration of Steph, it's good. Steph is likeable and easy to emphasise with, her struggles and isolation as the only lesbian in a small town and the damage done to her by the fallout of the events of Max's choice in LiS. (I chose my choice from LiS and the destruction of Arcadia Bay brought about personal loss for Steph who grew up there.)

As a game however, it's pretty bad. You're given a generic list of tasks to perform each day as a DJ (really just reading ad copies and answering call-ins as a 'psychic') and chores to do in the record store. A few bits of more social interactions such as a dating app, GMing a game for Mikey, play Foosball, the typical reading through SMS history with a small handful of reply options and working on Steph's new song.

The 'game' is more an excuse to have Steph walk around and occasionally interact with something and make a LiS-style comment or have some memory (purely auditory) about some part of her life. There's a handful of choices that have no real impact, mostly making a mistake in reading an ad copy or the advice you give callers.

There's no real game here, nor a story in any appreciable form. It's a decent character study that feels like it could have been done more justice in another form.

It feels like plenty of the slower moments from previous LiS games where you're exploring an empty room, interacting with stuff and scanning through texts and your diary, while waiting for the next story beat. Repeated four times. And that's the entire 'game'.

Me after playing WL: What a smart choice for Steph to choose to leave the town at the end of TC - the DJ job is really boring.

I really enjoyed it, I don't know about the replay value, but I haven't been really playing the other dlc's again either. I really like Steph as a character and as a lesbian who's around the same age as her it's easy to relate to her experiences and it was nice seeing her getting more backstory. Fun thing I also noticed was that the dice rolls Steph makes can be either good or bad so it can also change the dialogue if you want to play it again.
This definitely isn't for everybody, I feel like people that preferred Ryan in the main game for example probably aren't getting much out of the DLC, but for me almost 4 hours worth of content of one of my favorite characters in the series is way more than what I expected.

The dlc feels like going to work....

Loved the main game, but this DLC is just a snore-fest...

I've gotten through the first 3 episodes with my community and I have to say I love these characters and story soo much better then the one with the two brothers. They really made sure that you'd be able to understand every character and why they do the things they do or feel the things they feel and i think thats the coolest part. I cant wait to see how it ends because this has me just as connected to the story as the first one and before the storm did.

SPOILERALERT

I actually thought it was a bit too long and repetitive, and the "season" theme wasn't really that well pulled off.

Overall, though, I loved fooling around with Steph getting to know her a little bit better, and getting some small insights into the aftermath of LiS1. The music was also generally good.

As for the summer episode, the one about Pride, I didn't mind it for the most part because Steph is gay and it fits with her character to be political in that way. However, I disliked the audio of the speech at the parade. That was unnecessarily preachy, and it felt shoehorned in there.

i really enjoyed it, and i think its largely down to your expectations going into it. Its very much the story of the fallout of Arcadia bay and how Steph came to feel at home in Haven. And that's all about slowing down, and appreciating a quieter life. That's what you need to do too. Its the gaming equivalent of putting an album on, tidying up, and being alone with your thoughts for a while.

And thats exactly what i wanted.

Well, if you allow me to share my thoughts too...

I just finished and it was way more intimate than I was expecting, for the good and for the not so good.
I thought I would be walking down the main road again with a character with no powers and who already knows everybody, but instead it's a journey into Steph's mind and how she deals with what happens 5 years ago in Arcadia Bay, which is really interesting.
That was a call, a firewatch talking about his loliness that completely relate to the experience of playing the DLC itself. In some moments it does really look like I'm playing Firewatch again, because of the lonely atmosphere that is gave to you to enjoy, in my opinion.
Really good to see Mikey agaiin and all those flashbacks.

For me it seems that the franchise will always use somehow the LiS1 as a foundation, always somewhere, always influencing the universe, but the characters are alwyas moving on and not backwards, like life itself. So we're getting more and more far away from Arcadia Bay, which is good for the franchise to find itself a space to create other big event and grow up as a beloved collection of narrative experiences.

Steph and Mikey weren't in LiS1, they were in BtS..

I'm pretty disappointed with the DLC. Thought it would reveal a lot more than it did. To be honest, I was fully expecting to learn a little bit more about Izzie and her previous band, as well as a bit more about her time in Arcadia Bay. Instead I got stuck in the record store the whole time, with just some voiceover memories. With how many easter eggs there were about Izzie in the main game and Wavelength, I would have thought it would be more important. Either way, I loved the main game, but the DLC just didn't do it for me. Doesn't make me love Steph any less, and it's not like it did anything BAD, it just didn't do as much as I was hoping it would. It was just kinda... telling me stuff I either already knew, or that wasn't really that significant. Anyways, maybe we'll see more to the DLC later, that would be pretty nice, but I doubt it.
