That being said, I felt like the DLC did a couple things better than the main game actually. I felt like in a couple places, choices I made actually had an impact. Unlike the main game, which always ends the same way, at least with the DLC I have the chance to create a song over the course of the playthrough that's unique to me. Also, my choice about whether I saved Chloe or Arcadia Bay (I chose bae over bay) turned out to be super impactful.
It did feel like I hit a couple bugs, but nothing game breaking. And the very last section with the scavenger hunt felt a bit broken, or leading me to places just didn't agree with based on my directions. Overall though, I did enjoy it.
there’s more than one episode? 🥲
I'm also disappointed that the "memories" were mostly just audio flashbacks (with exception of the foosball games with Gabe but you don't physically see him so it doesn't even really count), they could've easily given us cutscenes or short playable flashbacks featuring young Chloe, Rachel and Mikey during their Blackwall days since they have all the remastered Arcadia Bay environments and character models from LiS1 and BtS available to use.
That aside, the soundtrack was awesome, better than the main game imo and it was nice to get to know Steph more and learn why she left Arcadia Bay and how the events of LiS1 affected her.
For those of you that chose to save Chloe, what was that like? From my perspective Steph probably has PTSD considering her near-dissociation that one day.
Also! Did the choices in the dating app actually matter? In my game Steph went out with Violet for a little, and not really anyone else. Is that the same every time or do those choices actually affect things? (Like the picture in the audio booth)
I love that they brought back many more mentions and voice lines of Izzie who I was really interested in after the tidbits from the collectible memories in the base game. Her and Steph's relationship is kinda tragic and hurts my gay, trans little heart hearing about it.
The tone in Steph's voice as she was preparing to take down the pride decorations, and looking out at Haven thinking, "... what am I doing here?" were so effing relatable and just... I had to take a break lol. I'll finish either tomorrow or later tonight (since I can't go on twitter or tumblr till I'm done).
So basically I love it and it owns my heart. But I'm also an LiS fangirl and I rate all of them the same: perfect. I haven't played LiS2 yet (though I really want to), so LiS1, BtS, TC, and now WL are all equal in my mind. I just love LiS. WL is easily the gayest, with Steph experiencing the same queer girl dating app woes that I am, but I really love all of them. I came in expecting to love, and I did. I'll make a review on the store page once I'm done.
