Ryan in Chapter 3?

If you pick Steph over Ryan in chapter 3 and read his emotions during the LARP after killing him as a wolf sometimes he will be happy about the LARP, and sometimes he will be sad about not being picked. I haven't figured out why. I think if you pick Ryan he will always be nervous about looking like a goofball though. There's also two dialogues that can happen when choosing Ryan as the distraction over Steph, and I haven't figured out the cause of this, either. Alex will either say something about him being a good choice for Diane, or just complimenting him along with the 'no-brainer' comment she makes if she chooses Steph as the distraction. I find these minuscule details to be irritating because it almost seems random.

I strongly believe these dialogues and Ryan's emotions during the LARP depend on whether you shook hands with him or hugged him at the end of Chapter 2.
If you shook his hand and then chose Steph, he's gonna be cheerful during the LARP, since he's not sure about Alex's feelings for him in this instance. So he finds no reason to be upset about Alex choosing Steph over him.
However, if you hugged him, yet picked Steph as the distraction afterwards, he's gonna be sad, disappointed and confused because he thought Alex liked him.

Same with the dialogues when choosing the distraction.
If Alex hugged Ryan and picks him, she's gonna say it's a no brainer, as she's shown affection to him before.
But if she shook hands with him, she's only going to say that Ryan is a good choice, which is a much less tender thing to say.

The handshake/hug choice pretty much determines the amount of affection shown to Ryan by Alex.
By shaking his hand, Alex gives the impression that she wants to keep things friendly with him. Hugging, on the other hand, serves as an affirmation of Alex's feelings for him since it's much more meaningful than a handshake. Choosing this option means Ryan receives a "relationship point".

Alex hugged Ryan and chose him: said Ryan's a total smokeshow and that it's a no brainer.
They hugged and Alex chose Steph: said it's a no brainer
Alex shook hands with Ryan and chose him: said Steph's a total smokeshow but Ryan's a good choice for Diane.
Alex shook hands with Ryan and chose Steph: said it's a no brainer.

I would've thought this too, but you've no idea how difficult it was for me to find a playthrough where Alex calls Ryan a smokeshow in a flannel, and the other quote is clearly more common, but even if you hug Ryan, in some let's plays I've seen, he still seems completely happy and fine. I WILL find an answer to this one way or another. I am determined.

Huh but I hugged/picked Ryan and Alex never calls him a smokeshow and said he was a good choice for Diane. I want her to to say that but she never does lol she calls Steph a smokeshow instead...

Uugh you guys, I'm in total confusion! I don't know anymore:( I have 2 saved playthroughs with mostly different choices. In one of them I romanced Ryan, like, hard and in the other, I romanced Steph hard. I genuinely thought the handshake/hug choice was the main factor regarding this. Lemme know if you guys revealed anything about this.
