I am not used to write such threads, nor to start from an inception and come to a conclusion, but I can highlight some major issues that seems to me valuable.
For start, remember the invisible cat from the first game? Well, that cat seems to be as "invisible" as the ones from the gala in Part 2. Meaning, the cat belongs to a second reality. During drugs or other type of medicinal pills, the mind is expanded and it gains access to other realities, besides the one in which the body is in. So Holly did arrive in a different reality in the final cutscene.
The second thing is... Do you remember when you used and lost the red shawl? When you reach the skybridge, you have to use your gun to scare the crows and then to use the shawl in order to see whose name is on a golden plague.
Now remember at the very beginning of the game. Holly first heard a gun shot and then saw a red shawl floating in the air. Someone did the exact same things before us. Either it is the journalist. Either Holly herself. Something happened with the first-reality-Holly. And because of that, we play as the second-reality-Holly.
I am beginning to think that time and alternate realities are the main issues here.
Another thing is the time capsule. Think about when you first saw it. No, it's not the second game. You first saw it in the first game, but only on the menu screen. Like here: https://game-owl.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/True-Fear-Forsaken-Souls-Part-1.jpg
Now, I'm getting another idea. Remember the wine and the time capsule? How that wine chaged into vinegar? Couldn't that time capsule be set to turn backwards? Like rotten meat could turn into fresh meet. The journalist could have cooked it in the microwave or something. This must be how he survived these 10 months in the asylum.
Yes, I believe that the journalist has survived. I do not have a snapshot of the last cutscene before Holly's vision gets blurry, but I think I saw him among the guests of that gala. I am currently playing Expert Mode, so wish me luck.
Feena also pointed out the fact that Holly changed her disposition when she was looking at the beautiful landscape when she got in front of the Greenhouse. She was content at first, but then she grew weary. I believe she was worried about everything. Being stranded and captured in a mental asylum at night is a very creepy idea to begin with.
Oh, have you all asked yourselves why, and a million times why, is Holly going all alone in her adventures? Feena said that Holly did mention she has a boyfriend. So where is that guy? Why isn't he accompanying her?
Feena recommended me a movie entitled "Rosemary's Baby" which Dimmie Azu, the game developer, said that he was heavily inspired. No wonder we have a demon child, an isolated mother, the mother's pendant and so many similar things that seem to imitate this movie. Check it out. Beware: It is frightening.
Let's think about the supernatural right now. From the first and the second game, we have: The Three souls into one, the demon child, the estate given to the pregnant mother, the demons from the cemetery under the house, the demons from within the asylum, unknown and creepy rituals, training Dahlia to become emotionless and cruel, people thinking the mother is crazy when, in fact, she is tormented or traumatized by everything around her...
All of these things made Feena and me discover that Charles Laudius wanted nothing more than immortality. Being a prideful, arogant figure and, above all, immortal can drive you to the idea that Charles Laudius wanted to become a god. Why would he go to such length as to do all the above-mentioned things? Why did he do all this stuff? Ta-da!
And if you work for such a person, wouldn't you want to become immortal just like him? Such is the case for Christopher Smith. The journals within the game mention that his body was not found among the fire victims. Why is that such an important detail?
It seems that only two women have discovered the crude reality and purpose of Dark Falls Asylum. Namely, Jessica and Rachel. Jessica started out the fire, while Rachel wanted to reach the news in order to expose Christopher's and Laudius' secrets. Just think why would they want to silence these two women for good?
The current unknown woman is Olivia Harper who seems to be the only character that is reaching towards us through the time capsule. She seems to know how to handle timelines.
Oh boy, I've been spilling out everything I came across so far or everything that I have discovered in just a few days since the game was released. What about your thoughts? What have you discovered on your own? Please, tell me. This is what the thread is here for. To discuss about our findings. I look forward to your findings.
Best of luck,
Elena
I skimmed through Hamlet's[simple.wikipedia.org] story today since Dimmie also said he was inspired from and I found something interesting. In Hamlet's story, his father was killed and his spirit encouraged him to 'revenge' his death.
Now, what if Elizabeth, Holly's mother is this 'evil girl' and seeking revenge for what they've done to her!
This screenshot from the first game can back up this theory

Jack is calling someone Little Lisa, and at the end of the message, he said. I'm sure the REAL ELIZABETH. It means there are two Elizabeth and this evil one 'spirit' is her and been called Lisa.
This theory crossed my mind after I read Hamlet's story.
From the 1st TFFS (2014 so many years ago!!!) we know a few facts: first Holly grandmother knew whatever the Laudius family was plotting and went along nonetheless, getting their house in exchange. The granpa did not, and when he discovered what his wife did he died for the shock.
Infact the grandma did sell Elisabeth to the Laudius. My theory is that trough an occult ritual they made her pregnant (just like in rosemary's baby) expecting the child to be some occult force to bend to their will. To their dismay she gave birth to triplets, and the soul got split into 3. So they took Dahlia, the one that seemed more "whole" (she had black hair instead of blonde and some serious control issues) and brought in the "3" probably for experimenting the merging of a soul split into 3. Apart from that, the rest i still unclear to me. Maybe all the madness and sadness in the asylum gave strenght to the evil spirit within Dahlia allowing her to manipulate jack and kill everyone, and once she grew in strenght she started searching for her missing pieces.
Another possibility is that the evil spirit was supposed to grant eternal life, and that would explain why her roommate was an old lady ( to check if she was really able to gave someone youth and stuff), but somehow the old lady got hold of the evil spirit creature and she is the real identity.
Idk, just theories, i have no clue.
Your theory might be true regarding the 3!
I haven't found Rachel's figurine, but someone on youtube did https://puu.sh/BWDJU/e3564c97db.png
She looks like the person who ran toward Holly when she fainted in the last bit of the game!
Back to the game, honestly i think is far less horror than the first (i am easily scared, and yet i only felt tension in a couple of scenarios). Imho has become more an adventure than a horror, also idk about all the time travel stuff. Feels bad, more like sci-fi than horror.
PS: i have found out rachel's figurine, is really hard to find, tho.

Also the grandmother is the one who informed them about the pregnancy

The grandfather seemed upset

========
I'm like you, I get scared easily, been very nervous and tense throughout the whole game. But if you've noticed, some of Holly comments she kept on mentioning the evil girl and said she can see her. WE couldn't see her because they must have removed these scenes where she shows up. If I remember correctly there will be a 'Fear Level'it was in the demo, and I think they'll add it in two weeks as they said on facebook they'll be adding and fixing stuff throughout November.
One of the snapshots in particular had me thinking for a while. It happens when Holly is standing in front of the derranged monitors in the guard booth at the beginning of the game. Each monitor portrays something they are recording right then, or so I thought.
On the center monitor you can see Rachel running towards something. On the upper-left monitor, the one people won't see very cleary (nice trick, developers), you can see Rachel running towards Holly that has just fainted. If our Holly, the one we play as, is looking at the monitors, then who is the Holly that is fainting right now in the library area?
Feena told me that that particular thing happens when the guard was alive. So that would mean that it happened 10 years ago before the asylum shot down.
Oh my God... I said.
Feena was tempted to say that my theory on alternative life is real!
However, now I'm thinking about another thing. Holly looks like her mother when her reflection and her mother's photo are alligned during a cutscene within the game. So, the fainted Holly is not our Holly, it's the Mother. But why is our Holly having deja-vus? Maybe she forgot everything. Brainwashed. I don't know.
Feena doubted, saying: Or what if the fainted one was Heather or Dahlia since the other said they are three souls splitted.
Yes, it could be that Heather took the same road Holly is threading on now.
However, Feena assured me that both Heather and Holly have been seeing the same dream, so it could be Dahlia who is experiencing that nightmare.
That's when I thought that they share memories.
Also, in another screenshot, Holly says that for a split second she could see the mirror room (or the enlightment room) with the eyes of a child. So Dahlia fills them in with everything that happened to her in all this time. She is showing them what she's been through.
Awful... Heather didn't survive the nightmare that Dahlia put her through. What makes Dahlia think Holly will be any good?
Feena remarked, jokingly: Maybe she has powers! Who knows lol
That's all for now.
I am still playing the game. That means you have to stay tuned! If you want to see all of my snapshots, you can visit my Steam account. I don't know yet how to upload a link here. A nice day to all of you!
Now shift into real life and look at your desk clock or any other clocks/watches you have in your house. The computer clock and your clock matches perfectly.
@elena: i think that the "eternal youth/life" the entity promised the Laudius may be related to time controlling powers. That would explain why Holly is the one that both shots at the crows and loses the scrawl just to get it/hear the shots hours earlier.
If you factor in the statues that switch time between 10 years, i'd say that time manipulation is definitly HER. Imho they did not find corpses cuz in a displaced in time, same happened to the frozen jerk, police did not find him cuz displaced etc. Again, is cool but not thriller/scary. It sounds more like a doctor who trope rather than a TFFF's. Also if we are right and all the flashback cutscenes are missing from the game, maybe this should have been an "early access" rather than an actual release since we are missing quite a lot!
Also i really miss how HER would walk around suddenly like in the first chapter, the claustrophobic feeling that game gave you, the constant fear of the dark and those damn holes, all missing here. HER looks too much Sadako-like imo (evil thing from The Ring).

This could be the 'medicine'Holly made at the end of the game and made her go back in time? So the patients were aware of this and they've been using it?
