The secret is to do things in stages, do not just immediately complete some of the mission goals, bascially complete 95% of an objective, then back off and rebuild until you have built up a lot of forces, so when the next stage appears you have plenty of units/defences to help with the next step.
Though unfortionalty you are in a lose-lose situation, as backing off not completeing an objective and rebuiling means your commanders are going to constantly annoy you by reminding you to complete the objective :p
Now, I'm sure it is do-able without cheating, but I quite frankly do not have the patience for such a load of bollox!
I mean what is it with "mission/level designers" these days with their absolute mastabatory fetishes in making them just utter ball breaking tedious grind fests? Maybe it's to hide just how little effort these lazy gits put in these days. Make it almost impossible, and it makes our puny 2 mission campaign seem like War & Peace - whilst we've really had to do fk-all work in making it. Again I'll quote "Total Annihilation's" 25 mission campaigns compared to "Supreme Commander's" 6 missioners. They were fair, well thought out, challenging but not tedious. Each one rarely would take over 60 minutes. You felt you was making progress at all times. Wheras with Supreme Commander (and Forged Alliance's laughable single 6 mission campaign is an EVEN WORSE example of this bollox philosophy) all I feel is the wish to break the nose of the t\/\/@t who "wrote" the campaign.
"Though unfortionalty you are in a lose-lose situation, as backing off not completeing an objective and rebuiling means your commanders are going to constantly annoy you by reminding you to complete the objective :p"
And you've hit the nail spot on there! That's exactly why they did this! To "force you" to complete objectives too early and make it harder than ever for you on the next! The sickfukk designer's way of "rubbing it in" even more! :P
PS/ The question still stands, where the heck is this "game.prefs" file hiding in Windows 8.1 installations?
and to enable them you need to add 2 sections
add this right at the top
debug = {
enable_debug_facilities = true
}
then search for cheat in the file if its there make sure its TRUE if its not then add this in the OPTIONS section
CheatsEnabled = 'true',
this should be all you need for cheats in campaign mission
Thnx for getting back to me,
This "appdata" folder isn't there on my system. Could be because I don't have "Supreme Commander 1" or "Forged Alliance" instaled on this 8.1 machine at the mo. They're on an old XP machine (where I can easily find the game.prefs file!)
But I would expect "appdata" to be used by other programmes, so I'm suprised there is none!
I do have "Supreme Commander 2" currently installed on 8.1 though - so far the campaign missions have not been so ridiculous with difficulty, even though they still all feature the "constant grind" tactic that I'm not a lover of! So far cheats for SC2 have not been necessary - but I'm sure their time will come!
Its possible the appdata foler is hidden, also sup com 2 has no cheats (at least not the vanilla game, there are mods that have cheats, but they will not work on the original).
I still replay it from time to time and change things, like maybe only using air, or only using land, not using navy when I should etc, just to give me a challange, or just using your commander as much as possible etc.
Obviously when I first started playing I would not be able to do that on the hardest settings, but that why there is easy and medium :)
Personally especially for stratergies and rts games, I do not see the point in cheats, as simply there is not need to cheat, all games can be finished without cheating once you actually learn how to play the game. Also many rts games you play multiplayer against other people/ai, any stratergies or gameplay tips you pickup from cheating will give you absolutely no idea how to defend against another person or even ai, as you will be used to doing what you want without having to worry about resources, waiting for units to build, how to counter an experimental without any yourself etc.
You need patience and to learn how to actually play your games, that is the challange of playing the game, learning from past mistakes and making new decisions,
At the end of the day we are not all going to be able to be uber at all games, its just the way things are, some of us will stuggle more than others, while I am generally good with rts's as I played them for years, I am not personally fond of racing games, but I do not expect cheats to be put in. What would be the point? There would be no challange to it, that is just admiting I am crap at the game, I would rather just keep practising and having the feeling of truely achieving something when I actually finish first.
Do not get me wrong, once I have finished a game properly cheats can help make a game last longer as you can experment with daft ideas that would normally not work too well (though I still do not use cheats in stratergy games, I prefer to work out different way of doing things properly) but I do like to use them in fps's etc to see what it is like to maybe just go through using a pistol(but with unlimited ammo for instance, but I tend avoid things like infinite health etc as that personally gives me no challange) etc, but again I only do this after completing a game and getting good at it first.
Although saying that I did consider cheating in command and conquer 4 as it was just so bad I really could not be bothered to actually play the game, but wanted to see the cut scenes, however youtube saved me from having to play that god awful game to see the story play out :)
Hehe, I totally agree, eternal life is a must for gamers :p

How do i use this to enable cheats?
What i did was simple i went and clicked on my PC, and typed in Gas Powered Games, EXACTLY as spelled and only 2 folders were shown, one had the prefab or whatever so i clicked it, i downloaded a program so i could open it and bam, that's what i found, what's the next step?
enable_debug_facilities = true
} and how is it spelt? Like that? or like this?
debug = {enable_debug_facilities = true}? Which one and where EXACTLY do i enter it?
Also where do i enter:
