Really frustrated, how do you upgrade to level 2 tech?!
I consider myself a moderately intelligent individual but I can't figure out how to follow the directions to upgrade my tech as the game doesn't tell you how to do that, just that I have to do it. I can upgrade the commander's individual upgrades but he's still at level 1.

I see level 2 options when I click on my factory but it tells me I need to upgrade my construction units. My construction units say I need to upgrade my construction units.

How do I upgrade my construction units to upgrade my construction units that allow me to upgrade my construction units so I can upgrade the factories!? I do not understand this chicken and the egg interface riddle.

Ahh nevermind, it's an actual item you build at the factory like a vehicle. D'uh. I couldn't find it prior to the request to build it because it wasn't actually available yet... they should have greyed it out :/

But yea kinda boring if you play for the first time and all those cool things are just greyed out now you are taken by suprise.

Upgrade your factory. Click on the factory to open the build interface and click upgrade to tech 2 and when it is finished you can produce tech 2 builders and units. With the tech 2 "engineers" you can create 2nd level tech structures. But tech 1 engineers can never become tech 2 engineers I believe. I simply kill off my tech 1's after achieving tech 2 and when I reach tech 3 use the tech 2s as decoys to distract enemies while I crush them with tec 3s.

there is always room on the battle field for tech 1 mix 50 tech 1 interceptors with your 20 asf watch your apponants give up air space due to pure fear of grey triangels (the trick is to let one asf slip into there actual view to make em think its a whole fleet of asf) im a sneaky git! UEF forever

Yea, I was frustrated 'cause there's 1 | 2 | 3 beside the build options yet clicking it said I had to upgrade my construction units and I couldn't figure out how to do that. It wasn't until half way through one of the campaign maps that the option was visible, prior to that it wasn't something you could do.

All good now, thanks guys!

The game has huge scale but it's ultimate flaw is that you ultimately just keep building elemental units as they are the most fun to look at but the ai is pretty dumb for the most part and it just gets old after a while. Shame they killed this series with that pathetic console port that dumbed hte game down massively to literally all you did was make elementals...dinasaurs? Really?

Think it's one of the reasons why some people don't like the game, some bits are immediately obvious! Another little one is placing mass storage around your mass extractors (4 of them) will give you a bonus mass income

same about energy distribution impact. there was also mod for vanilla, that allows you to construct pipelines, providing same bonus, separately :)
so generall you may notice plenty of storage around extractors and generators around factories and even some generators around T2 or T3 arty, sometimes. they also works with shields too, for example :)

This is not clear, even above.. at least for SupCom (standard) In order to upgrade, open the factory build interface. You will see added to the build queue another "factory" in addition to the units (normally at the far right).. Now you ask, "how can a factory build a factory?" What that selection means, even though it is not labeled, is that this is effectively the "upgrade" button.. once that pseudo-build completes, the factory will be the next level and will have the next level units available for construction.
I have not tested it yet, but I expect if you have the ACU or Engineers "assisting" the factory you are "upgrading" it would progressively accelerate the upgrade.
I have not looked at this issue on SupCom2 or the expansion pack.. they may have made the function more understandable, but it is quite obtuse on the basic SupCom game.

Yes, it will - Forged Alliance is exactly the same. If I remember rightly you don't need to upgrade buildings in SupCom 2, you just research the tech (for the individual unit) and it will become available at the normal factory (land / naval / air)

There are only a few buildings that can be upgraded like that. The Land/Air/Navel can, as well as the Mass Extractors. It's also worth noting that you can help those upgrades along with a Engineer or ACU, just like you can with building units. (The T2 Engineering Station "The Kennel", can also be upgraded to T3 but that is in Forged Alliance)

Personally, I wish they kept it like how it was in Total Annihilation. In that, you would first have your command unit build a land factory. The land factory would then allow you to build a Engineer which would allow you to build a level 2 factory.

Total Annihilation had a "Russian doll" build style that I loved. Everything built out from everything else, there was no arbitrary "upgrades".

They basically tried to simplify some of that in SC in allowing you to upgrade your pre-existing factories. While still allowing you to build T1 units from those T2 upgraded factories if you want.

Love it when someone who doesn't even have the game, not to mention only 5 and is a private profile pretty much revives a 4 year old topic.

If it is relevant, there is no reason why it shouldn't be revived. And people do have a right to privacy which has nothing to do with the subject material. The information here is useful, even to those of us who have played the game before.

Again your response wasn't necessary either nor relevant at this point, when people are no longer actively posting on a topic it should be closed.

It's against the rules to necro a topic this old and unused.

Also private profile users are typically trolls, why else would they need something like their steam profile set to private? I'm sure there are valid reasons but my experience most of the time they are trolling.
