as the Captain said... filtration via coal in your water tower is the only way to clean water... rains will come and go along with the radiation.
Don't bother wasting time with land radiation.. it will be cleaned as you build... otherwise the radiation will come back in just a few mins.. waste of manpower.. Irrigation pumps will also clear the land... but early on building them or providing water may be a little more difficult until you are better prepared.
just get masks going when you can and trade for iodine pills in case settlers get radiation sickness until you research the iodine mines to begin making your own.
Then select from multiple guides in the video section.. but try not to follow really old guides as alot has changed.
But generally speaking.. food/water and slowly adding cabins along with scarves first..then masks once all are fitted out with scarves.
Then get your scrap/wood sorted.. don't panic early on.. use the tasks until you can build the dedicated buildings..
General tips:
1. Forget everything you know from other games.. Endzone kinda works the opposite.
2. Use 'J' for the planning tool.
3. build slowly... 12ish cabins will net 120ish settlers over time.. it's not a race.
4. Infrastructure before population.. fill the jobs after they are built.
5. early game.. distance matters.. later you will expand and distance will be out of your control.
This should get you going.. oh.. play 'the bet' scenario first.. it will help you learn some of the basics
Hope this helps :)
