i'm starting a new settlement and i'm wondering what would be the best education focus for schools early game? Also what would be the best overall? Any opinions?

One that makes tools and protective clothing last longer. Then upgrade to advance school asap.

I havent given the tool one a try yet early game so ill have to give your strategy a try. I always left it on proficiency early game but cant tell if it makes a huge difference.

prioritise protective clothing over tools.. early game it doesn't matter if they are using their hands and last longer but protective gear is more important... then as EA stated.

- Research : Electronics>Wind turbines:
To power your research station effectively halving the research time allowing them to work through the night.
- Then research Advanced schools before anything else... to take care of the education focus.

Hope this helps :)

Hiya.. you probably wont get research started before season 25.. some do but its not advisable..

These are 3 of the most important buildings early game.. in the following order..

1. Research station: built by season 25... man it and allow research points to be slowly generated.
2. Expedition station: build after the research station and start exploring ruins whilst generating research points.. you may get lucky and discover these points during expeditions.. but mainly for Utensils to open up the research tree.
3. Trading post: To trade in what you need... seeds/research points/animals etc...

Which brings me to the 4th research item..
- if the trading post is built.. research the radio mast to allow 3 extra traders to visit..
- if no treading post yet.. then go for the refinery next. and if powered life has just become so much easier :)

Your ultimate goal once you start to discover Utensils is the scrap catcher with 3 utensils I believe off the top of my head.. this is a game changer and then allows you to do whatever your plans are for your settlement.

This will allow you to really get going.. no need to hurry.. there is no race.. take your time and build what you need early on to survive..

Note: This is only one part of what is needed but a part that many fail badly on.

Enjoy :)

I think im in season 18 or 19 and have my research station now but i still havent built an expedition center or trade post yet. I didnt realize how important they were so ill get on those next!

Yes alot don't realise that these 3 buildings are the backbone of your settlement early game..

-Research station allows you to advance/expand and move forward.. and like any research does take time.. so should be up early.

- Expedition Station serves a couple of purposes..

1. Allows you to get badly needed resources... big buildings like the power plant or hospital should never be marked for salvaging as the loot will re-spawn over time. (later in game it wont really matter.. but early game.. it can be a huge help.)
2. Finding Utensils to open up the research tree.. super important and possibly the main reason for this building.
3. Just for a bit of fun to see what the devs have done for this game as in graphics (atleast I personally appreciate the hard work they have done to immerse us in this world.)

- Finally the Trading Post.. allows you to trade in items that you can not produce early game.
Most notably the Iodine Pills to deal with radiation sickness until you can make them yourself.. Animals not available on the map.. extra research points etc.. this can bolster your settlement early on whilst building up your settlement.

I personally like to have all 3 built by season 45 to really give my settlements that extra boost early on.

Hope this helps :)

It definitely helps! i didnt know that the loot in the buildings respawns over time! That makes it all the more fun to explore and see what you get =)
