2 pastures full of animals suddenly died. Why?
So I had a pasture of 7 goats and a pasture with 3 or 4 buffalo. I clicked on the pastures and the animals are all laying dead in the pasture. Is this a known bug? Was there a reason? I have plenty of water so I have no idea what could have killed them.

Radiation poisoning?

How many Herders did you assign per pasture? How far away from a water source? How far away from the Herder's Home?
Did the Herders die with no replacements?

Do you have a screenshot of your settlement, showing the Pasture, Herder's Home and Water sources nearby?

I have radiation set to off. My population was around 700 at the time so plenty of people. I had 2 herders for every pasture. There was water storage fairly close by. The settler homes are not close. (not half a map away but not right next door either.)

So the Pastures never had the Workforce dropped to 0 from Herders dying and not getting auto-replaced?

Do you mean turn off Max Rain Contamination, set to None? You cannot turn of Terrestrial Radiation though.

I think @yayie meant the water source for the Pasture - do you have the Rainwater Collector built?

I doubt the workforce went to 0 but, of course, I didnt sit and watch it. But I have hundreds of unemployed people just wondering around, it's highly unlikely.
I turned off rain contamination and I dont have any other radiation contamination.
What does having a rain collector have to do with watering the pastures? I dont use rain collectors much, but I have 3 jetties, tons of wells, several water towers and almost 19,000 water. Water isn't the problem.

Pastures use ALOT of water.. (i find 1 well per 2 pastures works best). If your homes are a fair distance away from your pastures.. it's possible they ran out of water... it doesn't take long before the animals die of thirst. regardless of how close your water sources are.

my advice is to build some homes nearer to your pastures.. probably a shelter within 20 squares of them and see if that improves their survivability. Remember distance travelled makes the difference.. more so with pastures.
