so i just built a research station and apparently i need electricity to do research but you have to research all the electricity items......?? did i miss something?

eletricity is a boost also if the researcher did go to school

As with all other buildings, Electricity just gives a boost as has been mentioned above.

You can still research without Electricity, just takes you longer to complete. And with uneducated Researchers, slower still.

hmm weird it wouldn't let me actually start any research (i had a researcher assigned) ill give it another shot.

Maybe you had not enough points to start the research?

It takes time to get even 1 research point with 5 researchers (I think 4.5 seasons ?). With only 1 ... well...

The Technology concept is 2-tier.

You need Knowledge points (+ the construction resources) to do Research in order to enable the buildings in the Build menu.
To get Knowledge points you need Researchers employed at the Technology Station. The more (Educated) Researchers, the faster the Knowledge points are accumulated.
