and you get a stamina penality. but you also stagger less. and the armor rating is alot higher at the base.
the best armors are the sets which are pre enchanted with multiple effects so you cannot make similar items yourself.
these sets have bonuses for certain playstyles. for example light armor rarely has 1handed or 2handed dmg bonuses on majority of set pieces. but these bonuses are HUGE. they boost your dmg way more than for example your whole 100 skill points do.
heavy armor also often boosts health which makes you reach like double to triple hp early on if you get the right sets.
if you want to go for stealth light armor + bow is probaly the best choice here.
imo the mod is so well balanced on standard you dont even need perks to play trough it.
armors also never reach the armor cap like in skyrim as its simply impossible to do so as sets cannot be improved by crafting and there is NO OP alchemy pots to boost smithing either.
this also makes bonus armor spells really useful as they also have very long duration here.
when you rund around with 200 armor rating most early game enemies cannot even scratch you anymore. while high level creatures still make short work of you if youre not careful.
For ranged combat light armor, for close combat heavy armor.
The light armor does not penalize your speed, and thus, you can keep your enemies at a safe distance better than with heavy armor.
