Funny seeing as how I bought Winter Assault on its own, and now when I try to play it, it takes me to the Dawn of War Gold edition for the steam store. So if I need to purchase that to play Winter Assault? Then forget it, i'll just go back to DoW 2.

Winter Assault isn't a stand-alone expansion like the rest of the Dawn of War expansions are, it requires the vanilla game to run, which from what I can see they forgot to mention on the steam store page for it.

Well it was rather odd seeing as how I could play it awhile back without buying the entire thing. Which rather confused me now that I have to buy the entire thing now.

You must have had the base game installed at some point along with WA, though Relic could have done a better job highlighting that you need the vanilla game to play, as I could only find mention of it in that Dark Crusade wiki.

Hmm....Well, thanks anyways for clearing most of the fog for this. I think if I remember correctly I did have the base game installed at one point, but later on I uninstalled it. Guess i'll have another game that will gather dust for awhile until I buy all the pieces for it. But again, thanks.

I ve got the retail version of DOW and I am facing the same problem. Isn´t it compatible with the retail version? I don´t want to buy it again.

Click " + ADD A GAME... " on the bottom left of this window. Click Activate a product on Steam. Then follow the instructions to add vanilla to your steam account. This will fix the problem. You may have trouble unlocking all races online - I have before - If this happens, reinstall both games and install vanilla first then Winter Assault. This always fixes the problem for me in all the expansions.

Hi and thank you for your reply. I don´t understand exactly what you mean though. What is "vanilla"?

Vanilla is the basic game without any DLC, Expansions or Mods.

OH okay thanks. Problem is that I cant activate my DOW copy since I bought it in 2005 or so when it hasn´t been on Steam yet.
