Am I missing something?

I'm no Touhou pro, but I've 1cc'd all the main games but SA on normal and cleared some extras, and usually clear fan games on normal too. I'm finding this surprisingly hard on normal though, and I don't know if there's something I'm missing. I can barely get past Cirno, having lost all my continues to her on a few runs.

Are bullet patterns designed to be dodgeable, or are you meant to regularly use abilities just to get past normal boss attacks? Also, is there a way to slow down my movement speed beyond focusing, as I'm finding the movement speed way too sensitive for my liking.

I'm having the same problem as you. I have a 144hz monitor and the game is running way too fast.
It played at the normal speed after I forced the game to run at 60 fps.

There's a tutorial, the rush is what this is mostly about. Cuts down phases a ton and is pretty necessary to finish them / do damage in general.

I think the game is beatable without using rush but every fight is obviously designed for you to take advantage of it.

I think you gotta use it to finish health bars though? Tried to keep shooting at a nonspell phase and it seemed to just go on forever.

Thanks, that seems to have been the problem. I am playing on a 100Hz display and so it was running much faster than intended. Although I don't know how to force the game to run at 60Hz other than changing the display to 60Hz.
