Yes, It's The Black Screen Bug Again
Hey everyone, I played K2 with no problems for about 45 minutes yesterday and then had to unexpectedly kill the process for reasons not related to its performance and since then I have not been able to get this game to act right. Whenever I boot the game, I get audio and a responsive cursor, but a black screen.

I have tried:

- Reinstallation/validating game files (it functioned in windowed mode before I uninstalled and reinstalled the game - doing this appears to have made it so even that doesn't work)

- Windowed Mode (see above)

- Borderless Mode (immediate crash when I could access it)

- Alt+enter/alt+tab (this is apparently supposed to trick it into displaying correctly but in my case makes it crash, every single time)

- Checked my GPU drivers (they are up to date and there doesn't appear to be a specific driver for Kiwami 2 from my card's manufacturer)

- Booting in and out of Big Picture mode

- Optimizing settings with my GPU

Has anyone been able to fix this?

I'm having the exact same issues. I'd really like some help as well...

I missed your comment but through some messing around I've found a couple of things that seem to work sometimes, though this port seems to be an absolute mess.

Here's what I've found can sometimes get it working correctly again:
- Find your graphics.ini file and shut off SSAO by switching ssao=1 to 0 - the ambient occlusion seems to cause issues and apparently is ugly anyways
- Delete graphics.ini. This forces the game to generate a fresh one when you boot it up and I've found it sometimes gets the game running again
- Go into your GPU control app (nvidia geforce etc) and check for drivers/optimize the game settings for your card. I've found that strangely it can also help to boot the game through this app itself if that's a functionality, and you might also need to still go in and shut off ambient occlusion after it's done

There's also some mods that try to make the Dragon engine less of a clown car machine that might help, such as Special K, but I haven't tried them yet. Whenever I have to boot the game, it turns into a roulette of which of these it wants me to do. None of these are a silver bullet to getting it to work but I've found one of them will eventually get it running if I keep trying.

Man, I hope Sega just commits to doing the rest of the PC ports in house, because QLOC really made a mess out of this one.

Yeah, I usually have to cycle all of these multiple times before one of them works.

I'm no pro and sadly I don't really have a silver bullet to fix things, like I said. That's just what sometimes works for me when I have to wrestle with it.

Hey i'm having this issue, did you find a way to fix it?

press windows button and R type:%appdata% and find sega then yakuza(any version you have) then graphics.ini and change windows modes to 2 and if you have a controller plugged in plug it out launch the game then plug it in the problem some times can be because you have it on windowed mode or borderless mode and the controller for some reason

The game dies when alt tabbing, and in theory you could fix that by deleting the screen configuration, but for some reason the game itself alt tabs when you open it, would be nice if someone finds a solution.

я исправил у себя проблему нажав при запуске игры alt+tab и перешел в оконный режим. Дальше все работала как надо.

When I had it, deleting the graphics.ini and making sure it's in fullscreen and not borderless helped me. But it seems you tried so good luck I guess.

Try turning off Discord overlay for kiwami 2, that worked for me and I can play the game again just fine.

Thanks for the idea! I was playing all this time without discord and don't even think this problem might started because of him. Turning overlay off fix this! :steamhappy:

Hi, I also had this problem. Maybe I'm too late. But for those who still have this problem, I have found a solution and I hope it works for you too:
1. Go to your Steam client.
2. Go to the Settings.
3. Click on Downloads
4. Clear the download cache.

After you have completed these steps and restarted the Steam client, you should be able to run the game again.
